Imani Murray: Good experience! Variety for breakfast and overall, a nice stay. Richard Cauchi: We stayed one night on arrival from the US, based on other favorable reviews. And they are accurate about pleasant, friendly, attentive staff – providing a very comfortable king bed; storing our luggage before and after, and breakfast included. Package price of US $106 was very reasonable. The location is very convenient to 4 worthwhile museums. Their own restaurant, on the 4th floor with an exterior view is a nice resource for arriving guests. A neighborhood note: The hotel entrance is on a narrow side street with nearby construction. Nothing dangerous, just be careful.

Nay A: Central location, very friendly staff, nice and charming common areas: exterior, rooftop, lobby etc. The room was disappointing as they did not match the pictures. It was not renovated; smelled like humidity; the fridge was extremely noisy and we had to unplug it to sleep; the bathroom was pretty old with short curtains and overflowing water..

Paul Branson: Great location and nice hotel. Right next to Central Avenue (pedestrian mall) which has tons of shops and restaurants. They have locked areas for cars if you have one and our breakfast was included.

Caleb Buswell: Staff are friendly and helpful. Many speak English which made things easier for me. The facility its self is nice and clean. Over all well maintained given the size. I have enjoyed my stay here. Rooms: Rooms were clean and had the expected amenities and technology. The shower was a ceiling spray which I really enjoyed.

Mike Fitzpatrick: Just finished week stay. No maid service till late in day just when you are returning tired. Ran out of food very early on Thursday buffet. Ordered ribs. Got saucer with one small rib and four French fries. Frequent visitor who will never stay again. Back downtown to more convenient hotels.

Edgar Nunez: Well located, beautifully decorated. Sushi bar is offering limited rolls due to the pandemic and the aisles are noisier than I remember they were. Overall a good not overly pleasant stay.

Cynthia Cadet: Rooms were small but beautiful. Service was good. We left before breakfast, but they offered a mini breakfast to go with yogurt, a muffin, and fruit. Very nice! Location was next to a McDonalds and across the street from a mall. Also, not too far from the airport. The hotel shuttle to the airport was $30 dollars, very expensive considering the distance. If you want anything beyond that you will need a car.

Sharon O: Hotel was great, rooms very comfortable, modern, spacious and clean. The location was really good as across the road from a cinema and shopping mall. Breakfast was good and served until 11am. The reason why I don’t give it a 5 star rating is that at 11:30am we were told we have to leave the restaurant even though we were still having coffee, this did not make sense as people had to walk through the restaurant to access the pool area, so it was not like they were going to lock up the restaurant. They also advertise free tea and coffee yet it was $2 and had to be purchased from a machine. ☹️

smart alek: I am blown away by the amazing service and accommodating staff at this Marriott. I have stayed at hundreds if not thousands of Marriott hotels worldwide. This place hands down has the most amazing staff that is not only super friendly. But the most accommodating staff I’ve ever seen at any hotel. They really go the extra mile to make you feel at home and accommodate every need. When In San Jose I won’t stay anywhere else but here from now on. Hats off to the entire staff here. Thank you for making my stay feel like I’m at home. 🙏🏼🙌🏼

Paul Smith: Lovely location in Escazu. Lots available in the area such as shopping and restaurants. Very safe area that is well guarded. Hotel is very nice and clean. Staff and friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is nice with a plentiful selection for $20 USD. The rooms are modern and have usb outlets for phones etc. The TV would not support my fire stick. Jason Lee: Good location in the heart of downtown. The 4 star was because of our experience at the hotel restaurant where the waiter tricked us into believing that the 10% service charge added to the bill is mandated by the government, just like the 13% tax. Being oblivious to this, we ended up paying double as tip for the service. The room is nice so are the amenities. Just that the integrity of the restaurant waiter could be improved. We would have paid equally as much for tip if he had been honest to us.
Dominique: I stayed at the hotel for one night and enjoyed the short stay very much. The room was very pretty. The gym is small but has everything you need. The breakfast room is very nice and the food selection is great. The lobby is very fancy and large, it has lots of places to sit. The staff is very friendly.
iBang: The hotel is in prime location. You step out of the hotel and you are in busy section of the old downtown. The central market is within 10 minutes walking distance. The room was clean and nicely decorated with mirror and lightning. The included breakfast was nice. The service specially the door man at the lobby was courteous and helpful. However there were two negatives. First expect to pay $28 for parking. Second the TV in the room are not smart TVs. No YouTube, Netflix ... Just Spanish speaking channels and the video quality was really bad.
Bryan Hix: We did not have a good experience here for our last night of 9 night in CR. The room was loud, we literally heard all kinds of sounds through out the hotel. 1 of 2 of our rooms were not ready on check in. The Happy Hour they said was available was not. We sat there for 3 hours since it was raining outside and they didn’t offer us anything or even knock a beer off our bill. We definitely wouldn’t stay here again and wished we would have just gone back to the Marriott near the airport. Much nicer.

s j: This hotel is as grand as its name. The hotel is centrally located within walking distance to most attractions. The national theater is across the square and is a must see, take the tour if possible. From the time you enter this hotel you are take into a beautiful mix of old world and modern elegance. The hotel is beautifully decorated, designed and importantly very clean. I stayed on the 4th floor, JFK had stayed on this floor and some of the exhibits from his visit are there on display. The elevator is glass and need a key card for use, access is restricted for safety. Room- the room was spacious, clean comfortable and elegant with plush carpeting. I had a street view, and there were double windows which kept out the noise. The bathroom was large, modern and I enjoyed the rainfall shower. The 5th floor dining room had floor to ceiling windows with excellent views of the city and wrapped the building. The breakfast buffet was large with many options and was included with my stay. All of the staff I met were friendly, helpful, professional and seemed happy in their jobs. However I would love to give a special thank you to Anthony, the bellman who was so welcoming, kind and helpful. You are an asset to the hotel and I hope they are aware. This trip was to uplift my spirits after the pandemic and thanks for helping. This is my first stay in the Curio collection and it definitely will not be my last. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visting San Jose, you wont be disappointed. .

Mark Flierl: Their laundry service is a total ripoff. They charge 5 US dollars for a tee shirt. The rooms are also very noisy. If your a smoker, the only place to smoke is the sidewalk. You will be constantly hasseled by bums.

Sam Hernandez: Nice and cozy hotel. You can see they have to tried to make modern updates. Casino was a good time and the bar had plenty of eye candy!! Location great as well. All the food I had from the restaurant to the bar was excellent!! No complaints from at all for this hotel.
Peter Figueras: I stayed here in April what a bad decision. The first night I got there at three in the morning I had one of the staff members try to open my door. When I had called down to the front desk they apologized and said that they had sent the staff up to the wrong room. I was fine with it because I know everyone makes mistakes. This was just the beginning however. Most of the staff was really pleasant to deal with. There was one front desk lady that was completely and utterly disrespectful and rude. I stayed there for almost two weeks in total. Items were missing from my room from some staff members presumably taking them. When I got back to the states I had discovered that they had defrauded my credit card for $130. The money means nothing to me the principle of them stealing from me is what bothers me. Do yourself a favor and find another place in San Jose if you want to have a no hassle no problem stay.

John Shook: My wife and I stayed ten days. The place is nice but the bed was very firm. The food is good but a bit pricey. The place is clean and secure but we did have a morning where the alarms blared waking us up early in the morning. The announcement was only in Spanish so we had no idea what was happening. We immediately got dressed and went down 29 floors only to be told that it was a false alarm. We felt like idiots as we seemed to be the only ones leaving the place We go back to our room and the alarm continues to go off. God forbid something serious happens in this hotel as the staff seemed utterly unconcerned during this situation.

David Fontanez: We stayed here just one night, but we enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly, and the lobby and rooms were clean and well taken care of. The view from our room was great. Mario Montero: Was there for a meeting of a private non profit. The meeting rooms were nice, clean, orderly. sound worked well. Service was good. It was ran by a few persons. Bathrooms new and perfectly clean. Nice place for a meeting.... If the room sizes meet your necessities. Small hotel, super well located. Parking lot and they have an electric car charger. They get five stars and would give one more for the charger.
Mr G: Excellent Hotel and Amenities! The staff was very friendly and compassionate with “tourist who expect more.” The “Art Deco” styled room was clean, comfortable, with a coffee pot and nice view of the mountain rising above the city. Magnificent Air Conditioning! The bathroom was very modern and the hot shower was Awesome! The hotel provided breakfast and staff added a relaxing way to start each day perfectly. Free security monitored parking in the covered-courtyard area in front of the hotel. I rented a car and my US Sprint data-free service provided the google maps gps guidance to drive 25 minutes from the airport to the hotel and all over CR without any issues. I liked the hotel’s location by the Parque Sabana, numerous sodas “small restaurants”, and standard cosmopolitan fare. Once in a while you may hear traffic but it’s not a real problem. I highly recommend you stay here. More so for business persons and couples.
Ines Schmidt: Safe place, contemporary style. Good for when you want to stay for business, or for a night before heading back to the airport after your holiday. There is a small breakfast menu and mini market. Staff are very friendly. It has a lift in case you are worried about that luggage.

Emily Lin: We stayed here for a day before our overnight flight back home. 5/5 for The exceptional front desk and service members who were all so kind and very helpful everything from researching whether Covid testing was available from the hotel to helping us store luggage until our room was ready. I am not sure whether all the rooms were like ours, but our room was definitely in need of an update. There was mold all over the bathroom shower, shower head, sink and the sink drain was open and you could see sludge in the drain. We were hoping to shower prior to our flight but given the condition of the bathroom we did not. Otherwise, the hotel was in a convenient location and worked out for us to store luggage for the day.

Alex Fresh: Great hotel room, slept like a baby
Owen Staggs: I was a little disappointed as it was myself and two other people (1 working). They closed early because it was so slow, but there was NO Cigar lounge, and it was dead. We left there and went to another establishment. Now, if you are visiting and looking for company for your stay, you will find a great rate and willingness to spend time without ridiculous rates. My chica has been my local guide and phenomenal company for well under $100 US

Paula Taylor: Alta hotel is a very beautiful property! The views are amazing and the staff very friendly. The rooms are extremely comfortable with large screened French doors that open to a balcony with a table and chairs to enjoy the expansive valley views and sunset. The restaurant has delicious food and cocktails, unlike many other hotel restaurants. The history of the hotel is quite interesting and you can ask the staff who will enthusiastically share the stories with you. There are many fine and historical furnishings around the property and the most magnificent tree and patio to enjoy an after dinner drink or gathering. We have stayed twice and are already planning our next trip!

Jay Tooch: We really enjoyed the one night we stayed here. It’s a beautiful small property. The service was absolutely 6/5 stars. Restaurant was very very good too, both for dinner and the complimentary breakfast. It didn’t necessarily feel like the typical “luxury” experience like a Ritz Carlton, but there wasn’t a single thing to complain about. Recommend.

Jo: The rooms are clean and well furnished but on the small side - there were three of us so we had 2 Queen sized beds in the room. There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Although there is free Expresso machine in the hall, there is no where to make tea, even if you have your own tea bags. The hotel is beautiful with a small garden and pool. The service was excellent.

Wesley Hodges: Beautifully-designed and uber-relaxing hotel just a stones throw from Santa Ana area of San Jose. The layout and location of the hotel doesn’t feel like you’re in the city but most rooms and the restaurant balcony provide nice views of the city (and sunsets). Very comfortable room with a huge bathroom and separate vanity / desk entryway area + a sizable balcony over the pool deck. Great value for the quality of this unpretentious and well-acquainted 4 / 5 star hotel. p.s. the restaurant / bar made leaving the hotel merely optional, but glad we made the 1 mile trip over to Doris Metropolitan for a memorable dinner!

Stéphanie W.: First stop on our arrival in Costa Rica. Very beautiful, cozy and romantic Hotel. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very good, dinner healthy with very fresh products (try the Cevice!!). Great first experience for our 2 nights in San José. We had a room on 2nd floor with pool view with amazing view down on San José! The only negative point here (and the reason why we only gave 4 stars, was the fact that the doors are and windows are not isolated. So we heard very well the dinner in the restaurant (we had room 21) and the party next to the pool. We dis not mind, as we were super tired from the journey. But this could annoy sensitive customers. Otherwise, great experience!

Raque Miranda: The hotel has a nice European style. The views from the balconies are stunning and I think each room has a balcony. They have a parking area, pool and restaurant. The breakfast is delicious as well

Olga P: I accidentally booked this hotel for the day before I arrived (8/30 instead of 8/31). I realize that’s totally my mistake, but the woman at the front desk was unnecessarily snappy and irritable with me. I’m a woman traveling solo with a small child. They had available rooms and it was clear we were just arriving with our bags. I can’t imagine it would have been too hard to adjust the date on the reservation, instead she snapped about no cancellations and how if I want a room, I need to pay again. No, thank you. And then she was extra polite and smiley with the guy who was in line behind me. We went elsewhere.

Rena Farlow: Best breakfast of our entire stay in Costa Rica! Also tied for the most comfortable bed of our trip. The pool is in the middle of the lobby which makes it a little weird to use but you definitely still can. It also adds beauty to the lobby and it was super nice to eat breakfast by the pool in the morning. It’s centrally located next to lots of restaurants. The downside to that is having to pay for parking or park on the street but there is plenty of paid parking available. If you’re looking for somewhere close to the airport this is not it. It’s about a 20 minute drive but took us over an hour because of evening traffic. That being said I would recommend staying here.
Daniel Nicholson: Adorable little hotel. Very reasonable price, especially as it includes breakfast. The restaurant within is also very good and great value. Staff were super friendly. Very good location within San Jose. The rooms are simple, but nice. I was very very happy with this place.

quinna greer: My husband and I stayed at Hotel Del Rey as a couple. We had a great time! Every staff member we encountered did an amazing job. Excellent service! Our room was clean quite and cozy. The towels and linens were immaculate. The location is excellent for walking in the park. Shopping. Museums. And great food. Try Chubbs Sports Bar and Restaurant just down the street. Yes! There are many women there looking for company. Cool! An excellent cultural experience. We highly recommend.
JamesBronz - Gary Stephens (jamesbronz): One of the best places that I ever experienced a number of years ago. Traveling to central America for the first time I had the best time of my life and met some really amazing people there along the way. I never stayed in a room there, but the bar and the downstairs area with the machines was great. Hotel Del Rey is a place that you MUST SEE to believe.
Michael Ross: Very old and mediocre rooms, several hours each day no hot water. The casino is closed .. the bar area is tired and desolated. I moved to the nearby Taormina Casino Hotel which has much better rooms & facilities with the same entertainment options.

Masanja Henry Mashen: I slept at Hilton San Jose Rica and it was exceptional . The whole ambiance was magnificent . The waiter were well informed about the Hotel and very engaging. The rooms were very well organized and clean. The food was great as well as the disserts. Everything was perfect and I would highly recommend this Hotel for anyone travelling to Costa Rica. Besides its in the middle of the City with beautiful views.
Ady Kaiser: Mt brother and I spent the first night of our trip in Costa Rica in this hotel and we had an amazing time! The room (2 beds) was huge and clean. Breakfast was amazing and best of all- the people who work here. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful and I would recommend everyone to stay here.
Michael Roberge: Be careful when you book as there are two Hilton hotels in the same area. Some photos of this google description show the other new hotel. This is confusing. We made the mistake of booking at the Garden Inn when we wanted the other Hilton. The wind was really strong at the outside pool and there was no sun in the afternoon. Overall, this is still a great hotel and good location, but we would have prefered to stay at the other hotel.

Javamama: This is my 2nd stay at this hotel due to the tour that I’m on is staying here. The front desk is consistently condescending and rude. It’s absolutely unnecessary to exhibit this behavior. If you don’t like your job go elsewhere. Other hotels under the Hilton brand are not this consistently awful and they typically display excellent service. Being condescending only makes you appear cheap and childish. I would recommend staying elsewhere.

Steven Clements: I’ve stayed here three times in the last two weeks and made the same reservation every time and each time they give me a less quality room and the third time they said breakfast wasn’t included at the rate of over $200 per night. What a scam!

Sarah Leidhold: This is such an incredibly elegant hotel experience. The restaurant is probably the most fancy place I’ve ever dined; I was in complete awe of the architecture and the decor. The food was simply decadent with the best coffee ice cream I’ve ever had. Our room is quaint and cozy with a small garden and fountain outside our window. The employees at the front desk have been incredibly kind and helpful, encouraging me to practice Spanish when we are interacting. There is a gorgeous garden and lavish jacuzzis as well as a gym and a lending library. This is such a fantastic place to stay! I loved it here! Thank you to all the staff for being so kind and helpful.
Gary Young: Fantastic customer service from a historic landmark. Comfortable rooms with unique charm, in this former mansion turned hotel. Some rooms have a private garden, or are in the thick of a gardened courtyard. Relaxing jacuzzi and modest gym on the rooftop with modern feel. Hallways lined with historical photography show earlier eras of the country. The restaurant is high end cuisine, and accommodated dietary constraints (gluten, dairy, and peanut free).
Gabo: This place has been around for several decades and it is one of the best all around hotels in the Central Valley, and probably the only truly good option in the Paseo Colon area. The restaurant is top notch. Don’t miss the macadamia crusted sea bass.
