DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cariari San Jose - Costa Rica: what do users think?

Descanso Escondido: This place was fantastic. We started and ended our two week vacation here and it was perfection both times. We had 18 people with us and the front staff was able to accommodate all our room requests and helped store our luggage while we picked up rental cars, figured out how to use roof luggage packs, etc. The pool is fantastic, breakfast was delicious, and the hotel has a really great feel to it. They are renovating some spaces but it did not impact us at all. The rooms were very quiet and on our last night we stayed right near the lobby since we had to fly out so early. Both our kids had not trouble sleeping and we barely heard a sound through the walls. Our family really appreciated the separate kiddie pool and outdoor showers. My 7 year old wanted to make sure I also mentioned the delicious cookies that we received upon check-in. They were a hit with out boys. Will definitely stay here again.

Christina N: The hotel, itself, was great. There’s a complimentary breakfast with fried eggs made to order. There’s a fun bar with a lounge—they had karaoke the night we stayed there. While we were having some after dinner drinks, they came by with free beef skewers for everyone in the bar. I think it was excess food from the wedding that was happening in one of the event spaces by the bar. They were delicious. The only problem was our room. It was clean looking but smelled strongly of mold and cleanser. After some time the cleanser smell disappeared and all that was left was this horrible, pungent mold smell. It was impossible to sleep from the smell. We left the next morning as soon as possible. In their defense, we didn’t complain so we gave them no recourse to correct the issue. I wish that we had said something so we could see how they would have responded.
Response: Thank you for the review, Christina N. We are glad to hear that you had an overall great experience during your stay with us. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us regarding your room. Please rest assured that your comments have been shared to foster improvements. For this reason, we hope to have the opportunity to deliver a more pleasant experience on a return visit.

Gennalyn D Christian: We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. We have excellent experience while staying here even though the hotel is kinda old. I loved their tropical hotel set up. The bar and food are great. There is mini casino inside. The jacuzzi is perfect. Also its only 20 minutes away from the airport. There are few walking distance restaurant around and supermarket. The only problem was, because it’s old, the air conditioner was so loud and when I ordered sangria wine I noticed and taste it that the sangria wine was combination of wine and water.

Risalatul Hoque: Very friendly and helpful staff. We travelled as a family and did not come across any issues. It was a pleasure visiting Double Tree Cariari. We were welcomed and upgraded right away upon arrival; parking is across the street in a secured lot. Bar, pool, casino - everything was impressive. Highly recommended.Rooms: 4/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

J Roche: The restaurant service was excellent from Ramon, Tania and Rolando. They are excellent hard working friendly people. The room service was very good and quick. The hotel needs updates in the shower/bath tubs and shower curtains, and I prefer the hotel when it was painted with a crip white- however it was a good stay overall.Rooms: 4/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 4/5 …More

Jon and Tiiu: The hotel itself was nice, but the restaurant was a letdown. It has so much potential but focused on presentation over flavour. Food was overly salty and we were charged for a drink we didn't order. The wait for the bill was excessive, as was the updated bill when challenged. Breakfast was not even attempted as the prices were extortionate, we've seen better for half the price elsewhere in Costa Rica.
Response: Hi - We’re very sorry to hear about your experience. We value our guests and strive to provide transparent service, so we're disappointed we fell short here. We would like the opportunity to look into this further. Could you please contact us at https://help.hilton.com/s/contactsupport or call our team at 2209 1000?

Danielle Ahlberg: Not only were the accommodations comfortable, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The appreciation and display of Costa Rican art and culture was beautiful as we're all the impeccably kept gardens filling the hotel. Located close to the airport but not in a high traffic zone made the stay pleasant, especially with prompt shuttle servic. Plus, the warm cookie upon arrival was a lovely surprise.

Tim Stinson: Best Hilton hotel we've stayed at in the past three years. Staff was friendly, courteous and eager to help. Pool and bar area were inviting and the breakfast was the absolute best breakfast we've experienced at any Hilton hotel. The hotel offered a casino and convenience store that were nice to use. Check-in and check-out was quick and easy. Highly recommend the San Jose Double Tree Hilton to everyone.

Matthew Jones: I have stayed at this hotel two times and each time is better than the next. The staff in the dining area is extremely friendly and always ready to provide excellent service. I appreciate Tania, Kever and Ramon’s customer service and hospitality. They are kind and very welcoming. Karina and the other chefs are great. They definitely know how to cook. I loved the food. The rooms are very clean. You can’t go wrong when you stay here. PURA VIDA!!

Deneen Cole-Ashbury: We booked a night in San Jose as our flight was string late. I booked thru the app and was able to get exactly what we needed (two adjoining rooms that were accessible). It was perfect. The brunch next morning was great. We enjoyed the facilities at the Double Tree CariCari before checking out and proceeding on with our trip. The hotel offers shuttle pick up at the air port which was great! Check in and check out we’re very easy and the staff amazing!

Radisson San Jose-Costa Rica: what do users think?

Samuel Deese: Good value but some quirks. Nice rooms, good breakfast, reliable WiFi, friendly and helpful team. Some of the lights in my room didn’t work and the climate control didn’t really control anything, was always about 74F. Not a good hotel for walking places, especially at night, plan on getting a cab
Response: Thank you for taking the time sharing your review. We really work as hard as we can to make our great guests, such as yourself, feel welcomed, appreciated and as comfortable as possible. Your feedback will serve as a key tool for us, so we can continually improve our services. We appreciate your assessment and it will be an honor if you consider as again in the future.

MEM: I booked this location because of the high star rating. It wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t a 4.4/5 location. Aesthetically, it feels a lot like a wartime bunker, and our room was very musty. There were black spots in the carpet, which I can only assume were mold. Luckily, we’re not allergy sufferers, but that could certainly complicate life for someone who does suffer from allergies. The staff was helpful, and the breakfast buffet was the highlight, for sure. If you can get a decent rate, a solid place to spend a night on the way in or out of the country.
Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We always desire for our valued guest's experience to be exceptional and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Your feedback is highly appreciated as it helps us facilitate all the necessary improvements to provide an outstanding service. We hope for another opportunity to make a more favorable impression in the future.

Micah Burtchell: The rooms were very clean. Staff was friendly and attentive. The in house restaurante was very good. We didn't use the pool or hot tub because it was raining, but they looked nice. They also have updated plumbing so you can flush the TP safely. Showers were hot with lots of water pressure. It's not really within walking distance of anything, but there are taxis close by that the desk can help you with. All in all it was a very pleasant experience, and I would recommend a stay.

M CS: I have stayed at this hotel frequently over the years and I continue to return as I have never had a negative experience for the most part. I did not like my room during this last stay but this fact does not take away from years of positive experiences. What I LOVE about this hotel is the service I treatment I receive from the staff. Special shout out to Mayra and Ignacio who were wonderful during my Dec. 2022 visit.

Tom Haynes: Pretty much you get what you expect with this hotel. Fantastically convenient for transfers and overnight stays for moving on into Costa Rica. However, food is pretty standard and there isn’t much of an atmosphere to the hotel. Highlight by a distance is the breakfast staff - all hugely enthusiastic.

Maya Tydykov: Husband and I spent 1 night here during our honeymoon trip to Costa Rica. Pros: Food was delicious. Our dinner and brunch were both excellent quality. For dinner, I had the mushroom risotto for dinner and the blue cheese crème brûlée for dessert. The service was good (albeit a bit slow). The hotel’s main lobby and outdoor areas are very nice and inviting. Cons: Our room was… odd to say the least. Huge, with 2 bathrooms, a separate living room area, and a bedroom. Stains on the carpet. The partially-concrete design of the room was a bit off putting. The light switches didn’t all work properly and one of the lights flickered. The blow dryer in one of the bathrooms didn’t work properly - it emitted distressing noises and a burnt smell, and I saw electricity going around the back part of it. Ended up using the hair dryer in the other bathroom, which worked fine.

Nicolas: Worst customer service ever! Very agressive & incompetent staff at reception. From far the worst Radisson Hotel I ever stayed at... Doesn't deserve its standard stars at all. The hotel doesn't look like the photos displayed at all, it is an old dated gigantic hotel complex, everything is old... Needs a good refresh... it might have been glorious 2 decades ago, but it’s not the case anymore! Room was extremely smelly, terrible smell of mold and humidity. The carpet floor holds decades of stains, it was gross. Crazy & non sense policies, they refused access to coworkers & clients of mine that simply came collecting datas to my room. Even though I paid (by booking mistake for 2 pax & was alone) Never I have paid extra on top of extra for simple visitors that stay less than 15 min! This is just a pure scam, and you should be ashamed of it. They were not here to sleep in the hotel, simply attending work meeting, transferring data that require lots of computers & photo equipments that cannot be carried around the hotel... Screaming aggressively & chasing after one of my coworker down the reception hall is not only outrageous & ridiculous it is very unprofessional! Never ever in my life have I seen someone getting denied entry to the room that I pay for. If you do not wish to work in hospitality, well find another job or go back to training! And deactivating the room card simply as a "payback" to force your customer to cross all over again the gigantic complex to come back to reception is not only childish, it also shows that you have O respect at all for your clients.- Untrained staff, cleaning lady entered the room without knocking & woke me up even thought a Sign "Do Not Disturb" was hanging by the door... Poor breakfast, lots of frozen food... not even a real fresh fruit juice... not what you'd expect in that type of hotels at all.
Response: Thank you so much for sharing your comments, but also for taking the time to share your experience. Lisa Katharina Holzinger: We stayed there for one night and honestly the pictures we saw on Booking didn’t fulfill our expectations.. this hotel has been a 5 star hotel 30 years ago probably and that’s how it smells as well The room smelled so musty that even my clothes did still after 3 days The pool was shabby and the breakfast has been very limited The location is fine, staff was friendly and the price was ok.
Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We always desire for our valued guest's experience to be exceptional and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Your feedback is highly appreciated as it helps us facilitate all the necessary improvements to provide an outstanding service. NatyCrops: The hotel staff was great, very friendly and helpful. We ate at the hotel restaurant a couple times and our meals were good. The tamales for breakfast were to die for!!! Safety: If you're walking from the hotel, hang a left and go on the main road. Don't go right, as this leads to shady part of town. Ask the bellhop if you're not sure which way to go. We just took the taxi everywhere we went. Walkability: It's a bit away from the main part of San José. But taxis are avail to ride into town for $6 usd

Fabian Arredondo: My stay at Radisson was great! The room service was well done and climate friendly. The best part for me was starting off the day with breakfast and Alonso treated each meal with remarkable service by giving recommendations and coffee! I would definitely come backRooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 4/5 …More

Chuc Mason: Amazing atmosphere. Everyone is so friendly and accomodating. This is such a higher level of service after a long drive and being anle to relax in the lit pool under the open sky Thank you all for making me feel at home. Cant wait to come back. Clean! Nice little pool. Perfect. Mattresses wow!!!! Top of the line!
Response: Hello Chuc Greetings from Colours, thanks so much for your nice review it was really a pleasure to have you here and hope you come back soon. Thanks so much. Big hug. Liz

James Carvalho: Dirty rooms. Cheap stained towels. Ledge above the shower clearly hasn't been cleaned in ages. Empty shampoo/conditioner dispenser. Just awful. Attracts a seedy crowd.

Rick Nale: Beautiful gay Resort. Awesome pool area ,quaint rooms. 2 with AC.Owners very welcoming and responsive . Would recommend better room pictures, I was pleasantly surprised seeing a room in person.Rooms: 4/5 | Service: 4/5 | Location: 4/5 …More
Response: Hello Rick Thanks for your nice review, we are happy you enjoy the place and the service hope you come back soon it iwill be a pleasure to have you here again. My best regards. Staff Colours Oasis Resort

Juan Salas: Ok, I want to be 100 percent honest here. We stayed here as a last resort because we had to move from where we were in Manuel Antonio due to the hurricane approaching. For the price, I guess it was ok. The staff was friendly, and the food, bar, and the Friday show were good. The problem was the rooms. We saw a few and picked the best one, and still, the furniture, kitchen, bath, etc., were old and outdated; the were no kitchen supplies ( plates, cups, paper towels). It had two older towels, one 1/2 roll of toilet paper, and offered no bed service. The place had a weird odor and No AC. If you're looking for a nice place to stay, this isn't it. It's too outdated.

Elizabeth Azevedo: Loved this place and the staff! Fun vibes, caring staff, and all around a lovely stay. What makes this place (on top of being a lovely establishment) was the staff - Brian was charming and so helpful, Aldofo was friendly and made a good drink, and Daniel was sweet and and kind hearted. 10/10 stay here!Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 4/5 …More

Pa me: The last couple of days of my stay in Costa Rica was just pure bliss, thanks for this hotel. The staffs are amazing! They made you feel welcome and safe and knows how to have fun! Brian in the reception has one of the friendliest vibe and, Oliver from the bar is just so fun to hang with. Pool is cute with the floaties around and music is top notch! I’ll stay here again. (:

Tim Huskins: Very nice. Had lunch by the pool. Server was very polite.

Noam Kostucki: This is one of my favorite places in San José because it's beautiful and feels like home. The swimming pool is a luxury on a hot Sunday and the parties at night are fun and not too crazy. The staff is amazingly friendly and the food is very tasty! I even brought my mum for lunch and she loved it. Friendly for trans and queer people 🙏🏽❤️

Johan Enelycke: Cannot say anything bad about this very lovely gay-hotel! We had such a great time here and the main lady in the reception was so, so lovely and felt genuinely wonderful! Such a sweetheart! (Unfortunately don't know her name, but it was the main lady in the reception) Everything is just so welcoming and beautiful and we had such a great time! If I'd say anything that needs improvement it'll be to maybe have more events and inviting offers (2 for 1 for drinks and stuff) to make it more of a go-to spots for the gays but apart from that I only have good things to say about Oasis! (Also, we had the large apartment right by the pool and it was fantastic - very spacious and just had everything you could ever think of!)

Brandon Miller: Visiting San Jose? Quick weekend? Full week stay? Look no further, Colours Oasis Resort is the place to stay. We are typically easy travelers and rent a private home or villa. Resorts aren't typically our go-to... however, for a quick last-minute weekend trip, we started to panic when we couldn't find many places to stay. I happened upon the website, called the resort and was greeted by Liz & Don. So helpful, in a matter of minutes we were booked in one of their larger suits and all paid up. SO SIMPLE! Don was a godsend. He helped us arrange transportation to/from the airport. He was so kind to stay until we arrived the first night. So thoughtful! Breakfast was arranged for every morning, they were super helpful giving great recommendations for food, the city, travel, etc. Simply, the staff could not have been more helpful! So grateful to each and every one of them for all their assistance. The resort itself is unassuming from the street but delightful on the inside! Rooms are nice with the basic hotel accommodations (towels, soap, etc). We were fortunate enough to have a kitchenette in our suite... perfect with a fridge for snacks! The restaurant at the resort is well worth your time. We ended up having three breakfasts and one dinner at Colours... every meal was delicious and budget friendly! The other guests were super friendly. The environment is just beaming of happy vibes and great people. Look no further, you've found your San Jose, Costa Rica destination right here. Thanks again, Don & Team!
Response: Much love to you and thanks for your wonderful words. Come back soon

Sleep Inn Hotel Paseo Las Damas: what do users think?

Sean Carpenter: This hotel is very convenient and very well placed. It is downtown near almost everything you will want to visit in this city. There is a casino across the parking lot and a 3 star resturant inside as well. Great walking areas there are parks across the street. Other great food spots very close and a few good souvenir shops in walking distance as well.

Mynor Fiore: I stayed at sleep Inn for a week. I had a very nice time, hotel is very comfy the room was awesome. But the most important thing here is the staff. Thanks so much to Alicia, Lisseth and Rojer. Breakfast delicious loved it. Also everything is near by, within walking distance. Thank you so much the only thing missing transport from airport to hotel. I had transport back to airport the driver was amazing. Otherwise, a dream place.

Mark Shaw: Excellent hotel. Convenient location, friendly staff, excellent breakfast. Have been here several times and will continue to book here in n future. Highly recommend.

Rick Nale: Really wonderful hotel in downtown. Close to everything. At least 5 Awesome City parks within walking distance. And a chance to see a section of the Berlin wall thru the fence is close by within the grounds of the Foreign MinistryRooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

Gmail User: Very nice location next to historic little city park and buildings. I adore the toilet paper fold — that must be so much work for housekeeping, but it’s really cute.

Danese Grigg: This hotel is excellent. We were here for 11 days in December of 2021. Orlando at the front desk was fantastic, always there for us, whatever we needed. The housekeeping service was wonderful; timely and thorough. The breakfast room where we had free breakfast every day was pleasant and the staff here was also excellent. There is staff outside in the courtyards and parking lot who were always vigilant, making sure all guests were safe day and night. There is a casino next door that connects to the hotel and the Magnolia Restaurant. Room service is available and your food (which is very good) arrives promptly. Everyone who works here is cheerful and helpful at all times and will accommodate all reasonable requests. The guest laundry on the 2nd floor is a real plus. The hotel is just steps away from everything you might want to see in downtown San Jose and surrounding neighborhoods.

Tom Hazeldine: Stayed for one night after a late flight and the Sleep Inn proved to be a strong budget option. I had a large room with a comfortable king bed, aircon that worked and a hot shower. It was a bar of soap rather than shower gel but then it was a budget price... There was decent breakfast with friendly service - eggs, beans, toast, cornflakes and orange juice were all available. The breakfast was a slightly quirky set up with the eggs, toast and beans served to you at a table and melon, a small roll and a small pastry already on the table wrapped in cling film on a plate. Nonetheless it worked and I've booked in for a night on my way home! Oh and not forgetting the front desk who were very helpful both answering my questions at check in and when my shuttle bus didn't show.

Jamelle Moye: Let me just start off by praising this hotel for having a tremendous staff! They speak and understand english well and are truly kind! I read reviews about the hotel being dated but I booked instead since everyone said it's in a great location which it is. However it is an older hotel. I haven't stayed in a hotel with a wall unit a/c in years. It's not a bad hotel but if I wasn't tired from partying til 5 am and catching a flight at 8 from Colombia I would have went to another hotel. Again, it's not a bad hotel, clean, kind staff,, and a great location but a little too dated for me.

Aloft San Jose Hotel, Costa Rica: what do users think?

Cynthia Cadet: Rooms were small but beautiful. Service was good. We left before breakfast, but they offered a mini breakfast to go with yogurt, a muffin, and fruit. Very nice! Location was next to a McDonalds and across the street from a mall. Also, not too far from the airport. The hotel shuttle to the airport was $30 dollars, very expensive considering the distance. If you want anything beyond that you will need a car.

Tricia Hahn Jeter: Really nice place and nice people. Know some Spanish! 🇨🇷 Great buffet and lounge. Location is great too right across the street from the Terazzas Lindora Mall.Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury, Great view, Romantic, Quiet, Great value, High-tech …More

Frank Marchan: The rooms were clean and comfortable. The employees were very courteous. We had to delay our departure for 3 days because the airline canceled our flight, and the front desk was very helpful allowing us to stay for the additional period.Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

FamoTV: Everything was good but the bed was totally uncomfortable. The mattress was very thin and it felt like the springs in the mattress were bent and broken. Another things to note, and no this did not impact my review since it's not the hotel's fault. The hotel is off of a very busy road. Plan your drives accordingly, traffic can and will get very busy during the day. It's best to plan your drives very early. Its funny to see Waze will tell you a certain destination will be a 10 min drive at 7am, then when you Waze this same destination at like 3pm it'll say its an hour drive. So yeah, definitely keep this in mind, we stayed here for only 2 days before moving to our main stay hotel in Arenal/La fortuna

Tim Tanner: Stay here often and it's always a pleasure, great beds and showers. Spotlessly clean and a hearty breakfast usually included.Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

A1 Heating: Very nice hotel with friendly staff, definitely recommend this place.

Sharon O: Hotel was great, rooms very comfortable, modern, spacious and clean. The location was really good as across the road from a cinema and shopping mall. Breakfast was good and served until 11am. The reason why I don’t give it a 5 star rating is that at 11:30am we were told we have to leave the restaurant even though we were still having coffee, this did not make sense as people had to walk through the restaurant to access the pool area, so it was not like they were going to lock up the restaurant. They also advertise free tea and coffee yet it was $2 and had to be purchased from a machine. ☹️

Radim Svoboda: The staff here need to learn about Pura Vida attitude. Unengaged, looking unhappy and only doing the necessary. Needed to leave my car at their gigantic, always empty parking lot between stays as I flew out of the country for a business trip. Not possible. Other Marriott property (at the airport) happily lets me keep my car there. They also recently installer motion cameras in their rooms, presumably to control A/C better, but I find the blinking red light intimidating and frankly think that the cameras are useless, because they can't sense whether you are in bed asleep...

Hotel Presidente - San Jose, Costa Rica: what do users think?

Imani Murray: Good experience! Variety for breakfast and overall, a nice stay. We were charged extra for a fourth person in our room which we did not expect, but other than that it was a comfortable stay. There wasn’t anything exceptional, but the property is nice, rooms are clean, staff are helpful, and the amenities are good.Rooms: 4/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More
Response: Thank you Imani for your kind review. We are glad your stay was pleasant.

Richard Cauchi: We stayed one night on arrival from the US, based on other favorable reviews. And they are accurate about pleasant, friendly, attentive staff – providing a very comfortable king bed; storing our luggage before and after, and breakfast included. Package price of US $106 was very reasonable. The location is very convenient to 4 worthwhile museums. Their own restaurant, on the 4th floor with an exterior view is a nice resource for arriving guests. A neighborhood note: The hotel entrance is on a narrow side street with nearby construction. Nothing dangerous, just be careful.
Response: Thank you Richard for your generous review. We are glad you had a pleasant stay.

Rog Edwards: Nice reception area, tea and coffee, restaurant is good. Breakfast buffet is extensive. Rooms are reasonable. However I go to hotels to sleep and it was not possible in this noisy hotel even with ear plugs. Windows are single glazed and don't fit so street noise is very bad. Also maintenance work in the evening drove us out the room. I'll try somewhere else next time. Walkability: In centre of the city and easy walking to the main sites
Response: Hello Rog! We are sorry that your experience in our hotel did not meet your expectation. We are presently remodeling some of our guestrooms, but work begin past 9:00 am and it ends for the day promptly at 4:00 p.m. Regarding street noise, the CCSS Building two blocks away is also being rebuilt, and they are in the structural part of the work which is the loudest. A few of our rooms may be affected by such loud work, but it should be concluded very soon.

Paul Crawford: The hotel was very nice on the inside. Our room was clean. The window's lock was broken, and our room shared a balcony with another room, so it was a little sketchy in that area. Breakfast was delicious, and the service was fantastic. We were warned not to go outside the hotel after 8 pm, as the area is a bit "dangerous."Rooms: 4/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 3/5 …More
Response: Thank you Paul for your review. Did you report the broken lock to our staff?

Zuleyka Bravo: I highly recommend this hotel, all the people who work there are very friendly and professional, it is located in the center of San Jose, they have security 24 hours a day. My mom's knee swelled up and she was in a lot of pain and the reception called a doctor who gave her an injection at no extra cost. The hotel facilities have a very nice decoration, the room is very nice and safe.
Response: Thank you Zuleyka for your review. We hope that you're Mom is up and running again. Our staff cares deeply for the well being of our guests and we bend over backwards to make their stay the most pleasant one.

Barbara A: 5 stars for the very friendly staff, nice lobby and decoration. The room however wasn’t up to standards: it smelled like humidity, the shower curtain was too short, cleanness wasn’t great either (old band aid on the floor)… overpriced
Response: Thank you Barbara for taking time in writing this review. We pride ourselves in our cleaning standards, and we are sorry your room was not up to our highest standards as well as yours.

Nay A: Central location, very friendly staff, nice and charming common areas: exterior, rooftop, lobby etc. The room was disappointing as they did not match the pictures. It was not renovated; smelled like humidity; the fridge was extremely noisy and we had to unplug it to sleep; the bathroom was pretty old with short curtains and overflowing water..
Response: Thank you Nay for taking time to write our review. We are sorry that the room did not meet the expectations. We will talk to maintenance to fix the problems inmediately.

Freya Porter: The room was very spacious and clean but unbelievably noisy due to the commotion out on the street. We heard people shouting all day and all night plus vehicles and works. I'd recommend staying somewhere set back from the road so that you do not get woken up at 5am. Also the television had no English/American channels. The hotel itself had very interesting décor and I would recommend eating at their restaurant in the evening as opposed to venturing outside as the area was... dodgy. The restaurant and bar situated on top of the hotel was lovely with a pretty garden terrace and delicious food. The cocktails were reasonably priced and yum. Overall though we would have preferred to stay somewhere else in order to have a quieter room.
Response: Thank you for your review. We are disappointed that your stay was not completely satisfactory. We have been upgrading our windows with soundproof ones. I will look into the room at which you stayed to make the necessary adjustments. The TV service we provide in the room has over 30 channels in English, but sometimes previous guests change the audio which only needs to be restored from the TV menu. We will label the TVs, so our future guests have an easy time switching between languages. Daniel Mikowski

Paul Branson: Great location and nice hotel. Right next to Central Avenue (pedestrian mall) which has tons of shops and restaurants. They have locked areas for cars if you have one and our breakfast was included.
Response: Thank you Paul! We are glad you enjoyed your stay at the Presidente!

Jim Swanson: The service was amazing. Everyone seemed to care about my experience. Of course, there were tip jars everywhere, so that probably helped :-). The lobby was grand. Nice, open space that was well appointed. Sercice at the desk was perfext (and the tip jar was up front.) When I got to the room, there were two beers on ice, a bowl of platanos chips, and a bowl of salsa. That was above and beyond! There was mini fridge and an easy-to-use safe large enough to fit my laptop. As for the facility, not so much. The room was probably the largest one I've stayed in. Had to be at least 20'x20'. But it was virtually empty. Mifht be a great pmace for dance lessons! There was a small TV across the room from the bed, at least 20' away, so it wasn't useful. They had great WIFI so I enjoyed TV on my laptop. There was almost no furniture. There were two uncomfortable padded chairs with a coffee table that set lowered than the chair seats. Glaringly missing was a table one could sit at to eat or play. There was a desk with a chair facing a blank wall with NO outlets. There was one frosted wi dow in the room for ambient light. One could open a small part of it, bur there was no view. Thankfully, the bed was comfortable and had lots of pillows so it was where I spent all of my time in the room. Still, not enough outlets around the bed so I had to unplug the phone's power to plug in my laptop. The complimentary breakfast was reasonably good. They had a buffett with all the fixings for a typical local breakfast with the addition of a few cold cuts and cereal for the tourists. The "sausages" were actually cut up hot dogs each with a varying amount of doneness.

Aurola Holiday Inn San José: what do users think?

Rola Sam: I stayed here for three days and I loved everything about it. The room is very specious and tidy, the bathroom is very clean. The hallway and the surroundings is nice and clean. the best view of the nice buildings and city life. Having a corner room and large window’s lovely views of downtown. Very nice experience: customer service was great , room, location (surrounded by great restaurants and walking distance is a plus) is excellent, close to many museums, places to visit and shops.and the breakfast was great and the swimming pool was quite and clean but a little bit cold .thanks for the wonderful experience, highly recommended!
Response: Thanks for your opinion. Sincerely, Raphael Rojas Rooms Division Manager

Stina Börchers: We stayed here for the first two nights of our Costa Rica Trip. The personnel was very nice and helpful and the location is perfect for a short city trip. From the layout the room was nice and it was clean. However, it is an old hotel that overall also smells old. The air in our room smelled a bit moldy and we both avoided to stay in the room except for the night. We didn’t use the pool or gym. I would recommend you to shower in the night or afternoon as there was no warm water in the morning (probably because many people showered at that time).

Renee Anderson: This is not a safe location. I was specifically told to not go one direction because it was unsafe. Not suitable for single travelers or families. There was poor communication regarding the shuttle. I had to find other transportation and was charged for a shuttle I did not know about. I changed my flight to leave the day of check-in instead of staying in this hotel. It was a horrible experience. I was charged for the shuttle and the room. Peace of mind was worth far more than that. Safety: This hotel is not in a safe area. I was specifically told to not go one direction because it was unsafe.

Beverley: I came here from Vancouver with fairly limited Spanish language skills. I highly recommend staying here if you are visiting the area. The staff speak excellent English, and are extremely helpful. The rooms are large and very clean, and the hotel is walking distance to almost everything. I definitely hope to be able to return in the future.

Mark Shaw: This is a nice Holiday Inn for the location. There are cheaper hotel options around downtown San Jose but this offers all normal conveniences and is comfortable. I’ve been to several Holiday Inn locations throughout US and abroad and I do recommend this one as it is clean and has good staff.

Tomer Shenhav: The hotel is located in the heart of San Jose. May not be simpatico at night, but feels safe to stay in. There are several groceries and restaurants around. The rooms are fair, clean and very big. There's a pool. It's not warmed up, but the roof is transparent, so by day it's pretty warm. The staff was nice and helpful.

Aaisha Butler: My first time in Costa Rica and I’m a loss for words. Not only was my stay amazing but they made sure my birthday was a great one. This establishment spears nothing to make sure you are taken care of. Krisbel, Donier, Alonso, and Daniel are just a few people that help makes this place the amazing place that it is! You need to stay here. My room had a beautiful view of the country both day and night.
Response: Dear Aaisha Thank you so much for your review of our hotel. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and our personal made your stay amaizing. It's something our staff takes great pride in, so we value your feedback. We hope you will visit us again. Sheraton San Jose Hotel: what do users think?

Nicolette Douglas: Great hotel. Rooms are updated and modern. Breakfast is dynamite! Everything you could want and more. Employees are top notch, and hospitable. Absolutely no complaints. Loved it so much that I stayed at this hotel about 13 nights during my 21 day trip in Costa Rica Eben though I could have stayed with relatives. Felt safe, and comfortable. I can't praise this hotel enough.
Response: Thank you very much Mrs. Douglas for visiting us and for your kind comments. We are pleased to know that your experience was pleasant and that you had a good time with us. We hope you come back again. Best regards, Oscar Cevallos General Manager

Caleb Buswell: Staff are friendly and helpful. Many speak English which made things easier for me. The facility its self is nice and clean. Over all well maintained given the size. I have enjoyed my stay here. Rooms: Rooms were clean and had the expected amenities and technology. The shower was a ceiling spray which I really enjoyed.
Response: Dear Mr. Buswell. We appreciate your visit and time to comment about it, we are glad to know that you had a memorable stay. We hope to see you soon. Regards, Oscar Cevallos General Manager

Mike Fitzpatrick: Just finished week stay. No maid service till late in day just when you are returning tired. Ran out of food very early on Thursday buffet. Ordered ribs. Got saucer with one small rib and four French fries. Frequent visitor who will never stay again. Back downtown to more convenient hotels.
Response: Dear Mr. Fitzpatrick. We appreciate your visit, and again we offer our apologies regarding the time your room was cleaned, as we told you before, it was due to high occupancy and unfortunately the cleaning service was delayed, but it is always done. Regarding the food, we sent the comments to the department in charge. We appreciate your visit. Best regards, Oscar Cevallos General Manager

Lisa Basila: My husband and I celebrated my birthday here. We had a fantastic experience. We stayed in the 7th floor and were given Club access. It was amazing! Rooms: Our room was spacious, clean and elegant. The bed was so comfortable and the black out blinds worked perfectly. Nearby activities: The main entrance is very elegant. It leads you to the beautiful well-lit and inviting bar and restaurant. There is an entrance to a casino right next to the front desk. It's all tastefully done. Safety: We felt very safe and secure with the guard controlled underground parking. The handicap and electric vehicle parking spots are located next to the elevator which leads directly to the front desk. Our room also felt secure and included an in-room safe. Walkability: The hotel is located within walking distance to Pequeño Mundo. Other than that, you probably need a car or taxi /Uber to get around. Food & drinks: The breakfast on the 7th floor is unbelievable! You get an omelet station, sausage, bacon, pinto, plantains, yogurt parfait, waffles pancakes, cured meats and cheeses, lox, cream cheese, croissants... to name a few.
Response: Dear Lisa Basila. Thank you for your recent visit and comments, we are pleased to know that you had a memorable experience and we appreciate that you have chosen us for this beautiful celebration. We hope you visit us again. Best regards, Oscar Cevallos General Manager

Ramona Parker: I really enjoyed my stay here. Everyone was so welcoming, from the minute you arrived. The doorman to front desk to the maid service, every person there greeted you and assisted in anyway. The buffet breakfast was awesome. The coffee, ahh so good. I would higher recommend this Sheraton to anyone.Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More
Response: Thank you very much Mrs. Parker for your visit and good comments. We are very happy to know that your experience was memorable and that you really enjoyed your stay. We look forward to seeing you the next time you have the pleasure of returning. Best regards, Oscar Cevallos General Manager

Jair Abrego Cubilla: Nice place, clean and great spaces for different needs. Staff attentive and respectful.Food amazing and the service is really great. I will come back definitely. Thanks.Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 4/5 …More
Response: Dear Mr. Abrego. We greatly appreciate your recent visit and time to comment on your experience, we are glad that your stay was memorable, we hope to welcome you again. Best regards, Oscar Cevallos General Manager

Edgar Nunez: Well located, beautifully decorated. Sushi bar is offering limited rolls due to the pandemic and the aisles are noisier than I remember they were. Overall a good not overly pleasant stay.
Response: Thank you very much Mr. Nunez for your visit, your comments always help us to grow and do things better. We hope you visit us again. Best regards, Oscar Cevallos General Manager

Enrique Velázquez: Nice place, they don't really care if you have status with their brand in the US.Rooms: 2/5 | Service: 3/5 | Location: 3/5 …More
Response: Dear Mr. Velázquez. Thank you so much for staying with us, we appreciate your coments and we will verify what happend. We hope to see you again. Best regards, Oscar Cevallos General Manager

Jenny Jarell: Went to Arde Rooftop bar. Very nice view. Awesome! DJ and nightclub feel. Very young crowd though. Food was expensive! And drinks as well.Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great view, Party vibe …More
Response: Thank you very much for your visit Ms. Jarell and for your comments, we are glad to know that you enjoyed at Arde Rooftop, also, we take your feedback into account. We hope to see you again. Best regards, Oscar Cevallos General Manager

omri kashani: Location not as good as ac or residence in Rooms smells like cigarettes...but don't tell them that ...they will just ignore you ... Don't ask anything from the front desk .they will promise one things and just stare at you when you ask for it ...for example a ride to the airport that wasn't really there and the price went from 35 $ to 65$ If you ask their help they will laugh at you Daniela is the manager Isable is front desk ... Do your self a favor ...go somewhere else
Response: Dear Mr. Omri. Thank you very much for visiting us and leaving your impressions about it, we regret that the service received has not been up to our standards, we will verify what happened in order to improve our service. Best regards, Oscar Cevallos General Manager

Casa 69 San José: what do users think?

Paul: Very polite stuff . I had the reservation only for one night . The room was good for the night . I felt like a little damp but I then through out my visit in Costa Rica I felt the dampness almost in all the places I stayed , I am guessing may be because of the climate condition in December, I am not sure The breakfast area is charming and I loved to sit there in the morning and have the hot breakfast they serve hot . The continental breakfast which contains coffee, tea, fruit cups, bread butter and Jam were free. But they also have hot breakfast option which you can order. I liked the hot breakfast . There is limited parking area and you will have to discuss about the car parking while making the bookings if you are renting car . We reached the hotel at 1 am in the morning and found that the hotel just has 2 parking space , one for the owner and another one we rented ( $10 per day) I stayed for only one night and it I didn’t have much complaints

Andiamo Amigos: Had a great three night stay here. The people are fantastic helpful and friendly but not overwhelming. Nice sized room good breakfast not too expensive. We would recommend and will stay again if we returnRooms: 4/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 4/5 …More

jimnoti: Very quiet place with marvelous staff. From the street it does not look like much but inside its a calm quite oasis Plenty of places to eat near by. Close to attractions, government offices. A surprisingly good location. We will stay there again

Irina Morozova: The hosts treatment was rude and unfriendly. The reception was not truthful and offered the wrong room type, although the room I reserved was available and he choose to give it to another guest who was to arrive the next day. The hotel owner was rude over the phone and conducted himself very unprofessional. I reserved a 20 sq.m room with balcony, tile/marble floor. The room that was provided was 14 sq.m., no balcony and view to a wall. There was a large mirror instead of headboard that kept vibrating whenever the train passed by. The room pictures received during reservation were completely different from the actual room offered. The washroom size was extremely small. This one night stay was a dent in my two weeks vacation.
Response: From the start you wanted to stay for free. A discount was never offered. You complaint about the large mirror, different color towels and even that the toilet does not look like on the pics. Your room had 18 sqm with a terrace of 7 sqm right in front of it. Your complaints to the manager, Winston, and me, were so ridiculous that a professional conversation was impossible. Even in your complaint you continue not telling the truth. You received the last room available that day, but as you wanted to stay for free we could have never satisfied you. From the beginning you threatened to leave a bad review, just to get a freebee. We are happy not to have many guest like you.

Joe “Weltbummler”: Amazing and cosy Hotel in San Jose :) very friendly Stuff and the rooms a very clean and comfortable, also the breakfast is very tasty Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Quiet, Great value …More

Nick Hiltbrand: From the outside, you don't at all know what to expect. Once you walk in you realize this is one of the more special and quaint spots you'll ever stay at. Service, location, quality... Incredible.Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

Rob Weister: This place is a gem. Very good accommodations considering the price, breakfast was the best of our whole vacation. Decor and design is very cool and you can tell quite intentional, not bland and cookie-cutter like a lot of places. Best part was the owners Angel and Cindy! We connected and got to know them a little. The hotel is clearly a labor of love for them and you can feel how much of themselves they put into it. We truly felt like guests in their home as opposed to just customers passing through. The neighborhood seems a little rough at first glance, but we never had any issues or felt unsafe. Parking availability was the only problem. There was a lot next door that was being repainted and repaved while we were there, I hope they get access to it!

Sc Ang: Charming hotel and good breakfast. Great location.Rooms: 4/5 | Service: 4/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

Renata Züger: Very friendly staff, simple but very delicious breakfast with fresh fruits and juice. Very central location, close to Barrio Escalante, which is a nice neighborhood with plenty nice bars! We loved it there and will definitely recommend it!Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

Olivia Gervacio Jakabosky: Wonderful experience at Casa 69! The breakfast is very yummy and the hotel is very clean. There is an upstairs balcony that has a beautiful view of the mountains surrounding San Jose. The hotel is a bit hidden and there is not much advertising in the surrounding area which made it hard for our taxi driver, but the privacy is really nice in the bustling city. As for local restaurants to grab dinner/food, no cab is needed! We walked to El Jardín de Lolita which was a less than 5 min walk. Would come again!

Hotel Santo Tomas: what do users think?

Holly Woodward: This is a lovely haven to stay in when you visit San José. Near to all the main sites and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Their taxi information for the airport was particularly good along with breakfast which is freshly prepared every morning. One note in general about central San José, it isn't good to walk around at night especially if you are a woman travelling on your own. The hotel was incredibly mindful of this and always made sure I had a taxi if I needed to get around (Uber is also a good option). I would recommend this as a place to stay if you want a good central location. Rooms: A bit dark but very spacious, clean and had excellent facilities. Safety: Not a good location for solo women travelling but you can say the same for all central hotel locations in San José. Walkability: Very close to all the sites Food & drinks: Plenty of options nearby and the hotel is open to you delivering UberEats. The breakfast here is very good too.
Response: Hi Holly, hey that's a wonderful word ( Haven ). We just celebrated Nov. 26 - 33 years ago that my wife and I purchased the building and began our endeavor! Great Review And thank you so much for the highest score. All our Best Thomas Heidy, and out Staff

Nora Christ: This hotel is located in the centre of San Jose but it's still quiet. The room is quite easy, but the shower is good and the beds are comfortable. The breakfast between 7 and 9am is really delicious and typical for Costa Rica. The staff is really friendly and helpful. We didn't tried the pool, but there is a jacuzzi and a slide. They also have a small Gym. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this hotel :)
Response: Hi Nora, those are wonderful comments and I believe good, accurate information for anyone interested in boking the hotel! A real pleasure having you with us. Thank you so much Thomas, Heidy and Our Staff

Rachel Wolff: The hotel is very clean and the people are friendly and helpful. I loved the curried potatoes that came with the free breakfast They gave us a great dinner recommendation. It's walking distance from most attractions. Take an Uber to anything further away. Only downsides: There isn't an elevator, and the rooms have no shampoo, conditioner or body wash.
Response: Hi Rachel, Yes, the Free Typical Breakfast is a great way to start the day! That's correct. we don't put any of those small plastic bottles in the rooms. Please note in a bust month we will have around 1200 clients , that means at least 3600 plastic bottles, that is something I don't believe in. When my wife Heidy and I travel , we bring our own shampoo/conditioner in one , along with our Dove soap and a hand luffa, make travel so much nicer. Thank you for the kind words and let's make the world a better place one person at a time. Happy Trails Thomas, Heidy and Our Staff

Tonya Shantel Escobar: Love the room. It feels like a honeymoon sweet. The shower was really hot! YAY! I love the location so we don't need to take Taxi's as often. The whole place as a upscale feeling. Edgar the receptionist was very friendly and helpful.
Response: Hi Tonya, That is really nice of you, a lovely description. Yes, our location is only four blocks from central avenue , where all the local attractions are located. I do appreciate your comments on Edgar, as well. He is new and it's important I receive this type of feedback. I m just sent him a cope and thanked him for his excellent service. Again Thank You Thomas, Heidy and Our Staff

Mark ter Marsch: This week we visited Hotel Santo Tomas for the second time. It remains a haven of peace in the San Jose jungle. The American owner and host is helpful in so many ways in a friendly manner. With the refreshing pool and tasty breakfast we will visit it again!Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More
Response: Hi Mark, wonderful family you have. So happy we were able to assist you in finding a really good used car for the one year sabbatical you and your family are taking from the Netherlands. We have been open now for 33 years and as such developed many , many reliable contacts in many different areas. Helps that my wife is also an attorney. Looking forward to hearing your experiences after your time here. All our Best Thomas, Heidy and Our Staff

Alexis Kapanek: Honestly, thank GOD for this place. My fiancé and I initially booked a different hotel and when we arrived it was FILTHY. We left immediately and luckily found Hotel Santo Tomás, the owner (Tom) is such a charismatic, helpful, and friendly man. Our nerves were fried after a day of travel with bad luck and we instantly felt calmer as he told us he would take care of everything and did. Found us a beautiful and spotless room, with THE MOST comfortable bed and lovely hot shower; the hotel itself has a regal colonial feel while still being cozy, offers a delicious free breakfast, a beautiful pool (with water slide!!) a hot tub with glorious jets, plenty of beautiful outdoor common areas for me to work (I work online), excellent/complimentary wifi, and the FRIENDLIEST staff. They helped us with wonderful recommendations for everything to see and do while in San Jose (which made such a difference in our experience) and most importantly for me, everything was super super clean! Can’t say enough about this place. We will be back!
Response: Hi Alexis, It was so cool when you guys arrived all stressed out and we were able to create a relaxing and secure environment. Been doing it now for 33Years ! I can't beleive it. I saw the both of you working remotely in one of our many nice areas with great executive chairs and fast , reliable fiber optic internet to work. We have many dental patients and digital nomads stay with us. I also saw the both of you kicking it in that nice hot jacuzzi. All our best and thank you for such a wonderful review. Thomas, Heidy and Our Staff

John Raven: Excellent jacuzzi, slide, pool combo. Central. Nice people. Not sure about the chicken sausage at breakfast.
Response: Hi John, Cool review and thank you for the high score! Yes it's a tough one to make everyone happy and not insult someone , nowadays. For example the coffee, got to strike a balance for the Europeans that want coffee very strong and the US market that does not. Such is the life of a small hotel owner! Hope to have you return. Thomas, Heidy and Our Staff

Jennifer McMillen: Really great quiet hotel. Room was clean, shower was ample, courtyards are beautiful, breakfast was good, and if we had more time, it would have been nice to enjoy the pool or utilize the wellness and spa opportunities. Only complaint would be that the pillows could be upgraded, but I slept great!
Response: Hi Jennifer, I am on those pillows, apologize for that. Everything else sounded spot on! Looking forward to seeing you again. Thank you Thomas, Heidy and Our Staff

Stephan Schoenenberger: Beautiful rooms, very comfortable beds and a peaceful courtyard with pool and jacuzzi. The owner and the staff are very friendly and extraordinarily helpful if you need any help or insider tipps. This is a gem in the center of San Jose and it's pretty quiet for a city Hotel. It's just well run and organized. We've stayed here a couple of times and we will be back.
Response: HI Stephan, That is just a wonderful description, just says it all ! Looking forward to your and your wife's return. See you both soon. Happy Trails Thomas

Cathy Podell: Beautiful oasis in the heart of San Jose!Comfortable rooms and very affordable. Lovely outdoor breakfast and helpful staff. Swimming pool is the bomb!Rooms: 4/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More
Response: HI Cathy, Great having you with us and fun watching everyone enjoy the hot tub, waterslide and pool. What a nice description, who needs a cookie cutter US style hotel! We are here providing wonderful Costa Rica Vacation memories now for the past 32 years. Lovely review, Thank you so much! Thomas, Heidy and Our Staff

Hotel Casa Roland San Jose: what do users think?

Gary Blank: We enjoyed our stay here. Rooms and the staff were wonderful!Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great value …More

Bev Berry: The hotel was very clean and well taken care of. Room was nice and spacious. The complimentary breakfast was excellent the first day and good the second . I suspect different cooks. Although it was wonderful that they accepted pets, the layout of the hotel made it quite inconvenient to take them outside to do their duty/doody. It's a beautiful hotel but very spread out and with lots of stairs.

Mallory Evron: Windowless rooms with curtains, mold in the closets and bathroomArt of confederate soldiers, Kim Jung Un, and the twins from the shining.

Juan del Campo: Amazing staff and facilities. During my short trip to San José, my stay at Casa Roland was something I enjoyed a lot. The facilities are incredible, and you can expect to get a big and comfy room with all the services. Most importantly, the staff was very friendly and made me feel at home. I’d definitely stay again at Casa Roland when I go back to Costa Rica. Greetings from Mexico! Pura vida

Will Briegel: Really great option if you’re doing business near downtown San Jose. Amazing staff, very secure and comfortable rooms. It also has one if San Jose’s largest private art collection on display throughout the hotel.

Carlos E. Gonzalez: Excellent service, comfortable rooms, nice food and very kind people. Recommended.

Jeff Worm: My second trip here, very clean and great staff! Perfect for my great away to the coast.

Elizabeth Bean: This is the best value hotel I've ever stayed at in Costa Rica and I've lived here for 6 years.I also appreciate the boldness of the art in the lobby.Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

Laura Lucier: Lovely staff and good breakfast. Beautiful artwork throughout. Convenient location with some limited shopping close by. Adjacent to their restaurant which offers excellent good and bar in hotel lobby. Fairly priced

Kristine Hewitt: Absolutely outstanding! Do not be fooled by the outside appearance...come inside! Gorgeous hotel filled with breathtaking architecture and art. It is unbelievably beautiful and clean. The staff is so friendly and personable. Don't be deterred by the distance from the airport. Only took 10-15 min to get there and it is so worth it! The vital restaurant is so good. The owners are so hands on and gave such a memorable experience. Best food we've had in our travels.

Hotel Barceló San José: what do users think?

Alla C: I love this hotel. Lovely decorated room, clean bathroom. Bed is comfy. Garden was very inviting, unfortunately I have not stayed long enough to enjoy it. Huge choice for breakfast. Guys working in there are doing exceptional jobs. I would recommend everyone who considers staying there.

LAFOTODENATALIE Houston: I stayed there 2 nights, before and after the flight to US. I was so glad that I have picked the hotel. I took advantage of the free airport shuttle. I liked the garden full of exotic trees and plants. It looked like a mini botanical garden and I found it very impressive. When I was using one of those bars located inside the hotel, I was enjoying the view of the garden. Besides, that bar had a live music in the evening! The rooms were outdated but clean , the bed was comfortable. I had a view on the garden and city of San Jose. I did not like that I have never received a wake up call, however , I requested it as soon as I checked in. I was lucky that I woke up without the wake up call and did not miss the flight. The hotel was good for the price.

Johan Palm: We are happy with our stay, the hotel is located closely to the airport. Nice and clean room with everything you can wish for. The staff was helpful. The pool was a bit cold for my taste. The restaurant by the pool was fantastic!
Response: Thank you very much for sharing this great review of your recent stay at Barceló San José. We are thrilled that you have enjoyed your stay and certainly agree that our dedicated staff plays a key role to our guests' overall experience. The entire team works very hard to ensure that we deliver a high standard of service and a warm, memorable experience.

Nigel Van de Velde: When staying in San Jose just for the day (waiting on our flight back home in the late afternoon), we called the hotel to check if there were possibilities for a day-pass to enjoy the pools etc., without booking a night which was not needed for us. On the phone, the person was very rude to us; when we did not fully understand what he was saying due to the accent, and we friendly requested to repeat what he said, he simply replied “NO, do you understand THAT?!” in a very condescending manner. It looked like a very nice hotel, unfortunately the service we experienced was simply not good.
Response: Thank you for choosing our Barceló San Jose for your stay, we are sorry to read that you are not totally satisfied with the experience. We have taken good note of his comment about the customer service offered and we extend our sincere apologies if this time you have not felt properly attended to. Do not doubt that your comments will be studied to avoid this type of impressions on our clients in the future. Once again, thank you for your visit and constructive criticism, we hope to have the opportunity to regain your trust in the next time.

Hamza Nazir: Jean was very helpful and went above and beyond. The rest of the staff were alright as well. The view was decent from the second floor. I asked for a higher floor and the first staff member lied to me that they were doing renovations and that the other floors were closed. But I could see that people were staying on the other floors. Jean told me the truth that the other floors were reserved for some event.
Response: We sincerely appreciate the time you spent to share your comments following your visit to our Barceló San José hotel, our guests' feedback is of utmost importance to ensure our demanding standards of service at all times, please accept our sincere apologies for any inconsistency you may have experienced during your stay.

Susana Yáñez: Great place, stayed here for a week for our 2022 EducationUSA WHA Forum. The breakfast was great and the people very friendly. The garden is beautiful, the trees majestic and we saw hummingbirds. The only but would be that it's far away from downtown and tourist sights. Other than that, all great
Response: We always find it nice to read that our guests went home with great holiday memories and we are very grateful for the time and effort you spent to share your personal experience at our Barceló San José hotel.

Elena SW: The most beautiful hotel garden..! The rooms also have wonderful view. Some pieces of furniture , however, need to be upgraded. Breakfast was ok, but there was not any kind of chocolate -even in pancakes and croissants (which is a common breakfast in Europe). The pineapple 🍍 was the best i ve ever had in my entire life !

Michelle S.: Wonderful place to stay! Only stayed one night before taking my return flight home…wish I knew about it earlier as I would have planned days to visit San Jose and stay at Barcelo San Jose!!. Great beds, clean bathroom, and pretty roomy. I even had a nice city view from my 6th floor room. I didn’t get a chance to roam the grounds much but looks nice and inviting from where I can see. Of my week here in Costa Rica… visiting Manuel Antonio and LaFortuna this stop was definitely the most comfortable of hotels. Make your stop here before venturing out to the rest of the country!

Gal Anziska: way overpriced. they offered me an airport shuttle which never arrived. they then double charged me for my room and now are not honouring the original amount. food way overpriced, lite dinner for 1 cost me 45 USD.Rooms: 1/5 | Service: 1/5 | Location: 2/5 …More

Hotel and Casino Taormina San Jose: what do users think?

Takeshi: Most of the stay was fine, but I have to give this a one-star because a waitress tried to rip me off at the bar. She asked me to buy her a drink, which I agreed to and put on my credit card. But she didn't bring me a receipt. When I asked for a receipt, she refused to give me one. I was able to check my credit card account on my phone and there was a charge of $28. I asked why I was charged that much. The waitress showed me a receipt and explained I had purchased her dinner (which I never agreed to), but still refused to give me a copy of the receipt. When I argued that I never agreed to pay for her dinner she returned 5,000 CRC in cash, which wasn't enough. I went to the front desk and complained. The front desk was able to get me a copy of the receipt and asked me to write up a report about what happened. I did and asked the manager to contact me, leaving both my cell and email. But I was never contacted, nor did I recoup the full amount of what was stolen. I talked to other patrons there, and several said they had run into the same problem, particularly with that waitress. Most patrons said they only pay by cash and never start a tab to avoid being robbed. My issue with the hotel in general is that management is clearly letting this happen. Hotel employees stealing from customers is consistent with this hotel's policy. So it becomes a free for all. If a waitress is caught stealing, the worst possible thing that could happen to her is that she has to give back part of the money that she stole. There is no incentive not to steal. In my case, I caught her in the act. While I am not satisfied with the return of 5,000 CRC, the fact that I got anything back is proof I was wrongfully charged (aka robbed). It is my own experience and true belief that stealing from customers is allowed by the hotel. If you decide to stay here be warned. Getting robbed can ruin an otherwise great vacation.

Michael Ross: I'm very pleased with this hotel. For $20 I upgraded to a much larger deluxe room. Very clean and well furnished. Nice Casino and poker room with a very active bar.Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

Pete: Great place to go with the guys. Plenty of girls there and the casino is nice as well. Not a family place so don't bring your kids LOL.Try the pizza.

Mark Flierl: Their laundry service is a total ripoff. They charge 5 US dollars for a tee shirt. The rooms are also very noisy. If your a smoker, the only place to smoke is the sidewalk. You will be constantly hasseled by bums.

Andre Menezes: Great place. Not for families! The staff were friendly and helpful.Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

trent makousky: Plenty of amenities. Great staff. Mike Rodriguez at front desk is arguably the best I've encountered in San Jose (frequent flyer). Unbelievable. Ask him for help... He's got you. The woman present are beautiful and held to high standard. If not, they gone. Great place. Comfortable beds and great food 👍

Bob Costa: The new bar is the best designed one in Costa Rica

Sam Hernandez: Nice and cozy hotel. You can see they have to tried to make modern updates. Casino was a good time and the bar had plenty of eye candy!! Location great as well. All the food I had from the restaurant to the bar was excellent!! No complaints from at all for this hotel.

Nunya Bidniss: Taormina Hotel has COCKROACHES and won't give a refund. I checked in yesterday and 3am I found a cockroach in the room. Where there's one cockroach there's thousands. I am on the 4th floor. This cockroach didn't wander in here by accident and take an elevator to the 4th floor! Chase Travel Rewards did NOTHING. They called the hotel and when the hotel said 'no refunds', that's it. I guess they'd make you stay here with bed bugs as well.

Peter Figueras: I stayed here in April what a bad decision. The first night I got there at three in the morning I had one of the staff members try to open my door. When I had called down to the front desk they apologized and said that they had sent the staff up to the wrong room. I was fine with it because I know everyone makes mistakes. This was just the beginning however. Most of the staff was really pleasant to deal with. There was one front desk lady that was completely and utterly disrespectful and rude. I stayed there for almost two weeks in total. Items were missing from my room from some staff members presumably taking them. When I got back to the states I had discovered that they had defrauded my credit card for $130. The money means nothing to me the principle of them stealing from me is what bothers me. Do yourself a favor and find another place in San Jose if you want to have a no hassle no problem stay.

Gran Hotel Costa Rica, Curio Collection by Hilton: what do users think?

Jason Lee: Good location in the heart of downtown. The 4 star was because of our experience at the hotel restaurant where the waiter tricked us into believing that the 10% service charge added to the bill is mandated by the government, just like the 13% tax. Being oblivious to this, we ended up paying double as tip for the service. The room is nice so are the amenities. Just that the integrity of the restaurant waiter could be improved. We would have paid equally as much for tip if he had been honest to us.

Dominique: I stayed at the hotel for one night and enjoyed the short stay very much. The room was very pretty. The gym is small but has everything you need. The breakfast room is very nice and the food selection is great. The lobby is very fancy and large, it has lots of places to sit. The staff is very friendly.

iBang: The hotel is in prime location. You step out of the hotel and you are in busy section of the old downtown. The central market is within 10 minutes walking distance. The room was clean and nicely decorated with mirror and lightning. The included breakfast was nice. The service specially the door man at the lobby was courteous and helpful. However there were two negatives. First expect to pay $28 for parking. Second the TV in the room are not smart TVs. No YouTube, Netflix ... Just Spanish speaking channels and the video quality was really bad.

Adriano Travels: Hotel and rooms decoration are simple but well executed. Nice view from the top floor restaurant and especially cool to enjoy the nice breakfast buffet. Unfortunately the area isn't a good to go shopping but really well located to go to the national theater.Rooms: 4/5 | Service: 4/5 | Location: 3/5 …More

Sebastian Elizondo: I went only for a cup of coffee at the restaurant in a quiet relaxing place, but the experience was so much more. I got the recommendation from the American Express Fine Hotels Collection. I was running an errand close by and I had an hour to kill. So I went to the restaurant at the fifth floor of the hotel, even though I was wearing snickers and a Darth Vader t-shirt, I felt welcome from the very first moment. I sat by the window and I was mesmerized by the view, on one side the National Theatre, one of he crown jewels of Costa Rican architecture, in the other side a wonderful view of the mountains surrounding the Central Valley. The service was great, the attention to detail from the personnel and the welcoming atmosphere couldn't be any better.

Bryan Hix: We did not have a good experience here for our last night of 9 night in CR. The room was loud, we literally heard all kinds of sounds through out the hotel. 1 of 2 of our rooms were not ready on check in. The Happy Hour they said was available was not. We sat there for 3 hours since it was raining outside and they didn’t offer us anything or even knock a beer off our bill. We definitely wouldn’t stay here again and wished we would have just gone back to the Marriott near the airport. Much nicer.

Rhonda Warner: Great location. Best hotel in town. Stayed at room next to where President Kennedy stayed. View of courtyard and historic theater. We ate there and was a lovely meal. Very clean safe and welcoming.Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

Noily Alpizar: I visited the breakfast buffet with some friends, such a good quality and lots of options. Open from 7-10am. There’s was a 2x1 offer to eat 2 people. Good price for everything we ate. The place is the 5th floor so great view of the city.

V R Ganesh: Excellent hotel. We stayed for 2 nights in December. Great location. Excellent staff and a fantastic breakfast. Very special people work here..Johanna in the front desk, Sal in the breakfast area, Wenseslabo for dinner and Roy in the bar. Highly recommend. 10/10.

s j: This hotel is as grand as its name. The hotel is centrally located within walking distance to most attractions. The national theater is across the square and is a must see, take the tour if possible. From the time you enter this hotel you are take into a beautiful mix of old world and modern elegance. The hotel is beautifully decorated, designed and importantly very clean. I stayed on the 4th floor, JFK had stayed on this floor and some of the exhibits from his visit are there on display. The elevator is glass and need a key card for use, access is restricted for safety. Room- the room was spacious, clean comfortable and elegant with plush carpeting. I had a street view, and there were double windows which kept out the noise. The bathroom was large, modern and I enjoyed the rainfall shower. The 5th floor dining room had floor to ceiling windows with excellent views of the city and wrapped the building. The breakfast buffet was large with many options and was included with my stay. All of the staff I met were friendly, helpful, professional and seemed happy in their jobs. However I would love to give a special thank you to Anthony, the bellman who was so welcoming, kind and helpful. You are an asset to the hotel and I hope they are aware. This trip was to uplift my spirits after the pandemic and thanks for helping. This is my first stay in the Curio collection and it definitely will not be my last. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visting San Jose, you wont be disappointed. .

Hotel Balmoral: what do users think?

A: It was clean but the room smelled like mold. My friend and I were hit with a wave of it when coming in. The toilet didn’t flush. The room keys didn’t work. This hotel is not cheap compared to others and for the price there shouldn’t be this many issues. The restaurant downstairs is nice though. Beds are not comfortable but are clean.Rooms: 2/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

Drago G: Don't book here unless you love traffic, uncomfortable rooms, horrible service at the front desk, and even worse in their restaurant. The only good thing is the valet parking and the proximity to the downtown location. If your trip revolves around downtown, then it's an ok location but I'm sure you can find a better place at least with a comfortable room. Walkability: You can walk to downtown areas.

Brenda Otterson: Hectic inner city location, but suddenly quiet for the night by about 9:00! Lovely restaurant and meeting room, older but nice room.Rooms: 5/5 …More

Brian Reinfandt: The room was very clean. Breakfast was good. All the staff I encountered were very professional and courteous. Astrid at the front desk was very helpful with everything I needed. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Everything is very close that you can walk to. The room had a microwave and a large cold refrigerator. Have to keep them beers cold.🍺
Response: Good morning, dear Brian Very grateful for the opinion about the Hotel, this motivates us to keep working to offer the best service to all our guests. We hope you visit us again soon. Best regards,

Super Dave: Great experience. Hotel has parking and is in the center of downtown San Jose, walking distance to many casinos, restaurants and other entertainment. The hotel itself was clean, very safe, and great customer service.Rooms: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5 …More

Sunali Sandal: DO NOT STAY HERE. They have bed bugs and did nothing about it. Will not even pay for the cleaning and exterminating. Worse experience ever. It is not 1 star hotel and I would say it lower if I could.Rooms: 1/5 | Service: 1/5 | Location: 3/5 …More

Darlene Swan: Location, fabulous! Service friendly, rooms very cleanNearby activities: Very close to beautiful parks, and a vibrant centy centerRooms: 4/5 | Service: 5/5 | Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great value …More

Wylie Gibbins: I love this hotel! Great location in downtown San Jose right next to several of the museums, restaurants, and activities I was interested in visiting. The staff was very helpful and spoke English (which was important for me) and the rooms had a nice contemporary finish. I'd recommend anyone visiting San Jose to stay here.

Emily Lin: We stayed here for a day before our overnight flight back home. 5/5 for The exceptional front desk and service members who were all so kind and very helpful everything from researching whether Covid testing was available from the hotel to helping us store luggage until our room was ready. I am not sure whether all the rooms were like ours, but our room was definitely in need of an update. There was mold all over the bathroom shower, shower head, sink and the sink drain was open and you could see sludge in the drain. We were hoping to shower prior to our flight but given the condition of the bathroom we did not. Otherwise, the hotel was in a convenient location and worked out for us to store luggage for the day.
Response: Hello, dear Emily We are grateful for your review of the hotel. This motivates us to continue to improve and offer an excellent service to our guests. We are sorry for the inconvenience, we will immediately follow up and resolve it as soon as possible. We assure you that for your next stay everything will be excellent. We hope you will visit us again soon. Best regards,

MICHAEL SUTER: Very nice hotel with helpful staff. Helped us get our lost luggage back. Updated rooms , good restaurant. Bathrooms kind of small. Not in the best area , but felt very secure in this property
Response: Good morning, dear Michael We are grateful for your review of the hotel. This motivates us to continue to improve and offer an excellent service to all our visitors. As you mentioned our rooms have been recently refurbished and you can see our improvements in the images of our establishment. We hope you will visit us again soon. Best regards,
