Howard Blum
Howard Blum: I love going to this restaurant.Delightful surroundings, linen tablecloths & napkins, great food and fantastic service.
Laurie Duffau
Laurie Duffau: If you are looking to impress a guest this is the place to go. Service is awesome and most servers are bilingual (Spanish and English), the presentation of the main dish is memorable. The food absolutely amazing. MUST TRY
Francesca Cesari
Francesca Cesari: Not great food, at leat for an Italian. Had pizzq (seemed like the safest thing to order abroad) and it seemed rolled with a rolling pin as the base was like bread, not pizza. Taste was not that great - in sum, not a pizza. But service was good.
DCS
DCS: Great place and good attention! The menu and the quality are excellent!
Matthew Smith
Matthew Smith: We stopped here on our first night in San Jose. The wait staff was welcoming and able to understand our broken Spanish (and help us in English). I have a gluten allergy and our server helped me find options on the menu. We ordered multiple courses and I found the pacing to be relaxed, but not slow. Perfect to savor the food and atmosphere. I would absolutely recommend Limoncello for great Italian style food in San José. Especially for those looking for gluten free options.
David McCurley
David McCurley: Classy place. Excellent service. Food was good. Medium price range.
Richard Blaser
Richard Blaser: Limoncello is spot on for food/price/service. They also have private dining rooms upstairs for meetings and such. The staff is extremely attentive and the food is delicious. They also offer gluten free options and will be very accommodating if you wish to change things about your meal.
Álvaro Justen
Álvaro Justen: One of the best restaurants in town. Well served dishes, amazing waiter, very interesting wine machine. There very good vegetarian options.

Mario Montero
Mario Montero: Typical food place. Real typical I mean. Fast, decent service, delicious breakfast (specially if you run ... btw sweaty runners are welcome). And most important, cheap!

Arbol de Seda: what do users think?
Luca
Luca: This vegan/veggie restaurant is absolutely fantastic. Staff is super friendly, nice interrior, cool vibe, great craft beers, and most importantly: The food is amazing. We are working our way through the menu and everything has been really tasty.
St L
St L: A must see if you are visiting! Amazing vegetarian, vegan, and healthy options, like salads. Loved the Dinastía caprese (picture below) and bought some organic, fair trade coffee as well as unique vegan sweets to take back home. Later, I came back for more and was blown away by Cheesegay Cereza and Chiffon de Chocolate. Chocolate cheese cake was ok. Service was outstanding. Love this place.
Melody Desrochers
Melody Desrochers: Overall the food was good, vegan or not. The Brunch burger came with juice and fruit which was amazing! Coffee was muah. Dessert was tasty. I’m only giving a 4 star mainly due to service. Everyone was friendly but it was super slow. I am getting used to this in Costa Rica but it was frustrating that I asked for my bill and over 20mins later I was still waiting. I recommend but have patience.
Zu Dance
Zu Dance: Loveeee the supreme beyond fries. Loved the menu and the mock tails. Staff super friendly and it feels so cozy. We loved the vegan lemon cheesecake and before getting back home, the chef actually shared some tips so I can try it at home. Thank you árbol de seda for feeding us during our stay in San José!
Neha Molugu
Neha Molugu: Such a warm and welcoming place! The owners are so beautiful. They have lots of great fusion veggie food and the vibe is one that lifts your spirit immediately!
Kay Hooshmand
Kay Hooshmand: Wow! Went there for dinner on a busy Saturday night with my very rambunctious four year old and loved it - the flavors all blended together perfectly and the wine was outstanding. We had the: - sangria - soup of the day - strawberry salad - rice paper rolls So good! They were very friendly and accommodating to this single mom. Can’t wait to go back! And cheap - everything came out to less than $40 with tip. Amazing.

Tin Jo Asian Restaurant: what do users think?
Sebas Garcia
Sebas Garcia: Great place! Loved the decoration, and how the menu and the place is divided to represent different cultures! The staff was awesome, really helpful and nice. The menu has a lot of options, several of which are vegetarian, including main dishes and appetizers. The food was great, and the prices are affordable. We tried some wine and margaritas and they were pretty good ( they gave us the wine as a courtesy because of the dishes we ordered). There is no parking space directly in front of the place, but there is a cheap public parking a couple buildings away. Overall had a great experience, loved the place and would absolutely recommend it!
B Davis
B Davis: We have no idea how this restaurant has the reviews it does. We traveled all over Costa Rica for 2 weeks and this was the worst meal we had the entire time. We also traveled extensively for months through Southeast Asia and had a lot of authentic food - this was worse than we could have cooked at home. We ordered Tin Jo Special, Korean Chicken and Orange Chicken. All of the sauces were gelatinous and worse than you can buy from a jar in a supermarket in the US. The chicken dishes were barely fried, just soft, mushy breading covered in disgusting sauce. The kitchen didn’t even bother to sprinkle the orange chicken with sesame seeds. Seems to us like the restaurant is lazy, working off their good reviews they received years ago but doing nothing to upkeep them. Even the rice was poorly cooked, clumpy and cold. The drinks were good. The sangria was delicious and so was the tamarind soda. Also the decor was nice, and rooms with decor from different countries was creative. But as far as the food goes, trying to recreate dishes from so many countries well, can be difficult and this restaurant can’t do it. If you come to this area of town and are looking for a great, authentic place to eat, the Argentine place a street away is mind blowing by comparison.
Response: Good afternoon B Davis, it is a pleasure to greet you, my name is Karol, I am the person in charge of service at Tin Jo. I am very sorry to read about your experience, I would like to somehow make up for the bad time you had and that you do not end up with this bad taste in your mouth. Tin Jo is a restaurant that has been pleasing palates for 51 years and providing experiences that encompass atmosphere, service, and food. We love giving away moments and making your experiences unique. If you feel comfortable coming back, we will be happy to serve you and make a little of your previous bad experience. It will be a pleasure to serve you and we will be waiting for you with open hearts!
Bryan Astua
Bryan Astua: I’m just amazed not only by the food quality but also about the whole experience. This is a multicultural restaurant, menu and ambiance. The host Allen is an extremely attentive person and gave us a guided tour through the restaurant. I’m for sure going to recommend this restaurant to my friends and family
Vincent Joseph
Vincent Joseph: Excellent choice of Asian foods: menu organized by country and style of foods with clear selection of spice level (from none, to mild to extra hot). Good ambiance in each room.
A C
A C: Really good food, but today they messed up badly on service. They sent food to one of 5 people first. Then took over an hour to bring the appetizers that should have arrived first. We talked to them about 4 times to check on the food and it still took forever. The first person had finished her food and was ordering dessert by the time our arrived. Very disappointed.
John Davison
John Davison: What a great selection of vegetarian dishes! I chose the Sichuan mapo tofu with passionfruit juice (an ideal combination!)
Response: Thank you very much for your comment, it fills our hearts with joy that you enjoy our mapo tofu, we remind you that every Monday is vegetarian Monday, so all our vegetarian menu is at a 20% discount.

Café Rojo: what do users think?
Tanitiã Munroe
Tanitiã Munroe: Where do I begin? Everything at this place is scrumptious! The food is quite filling and flavourful. They have incredible natural juices and their pastry rich. Everyone should try their pie made with passion fruit filling and homemade jam. Incredible atmosphere and friendly staff. Ask for Cassandra aka Cassie. This is one of my favorite places in San Jose.
Response: Tanitiã thank you so much. I will transfer your kind words to Cassie.
Johanna Tseng
Johanna Tseng: Vietnamese inspired restaurant with vegan and vegetarian options. The food feels like it’s on the lighter side, especially since you get to control the amount of sauce that goes into your food. The con of that is that your sauce mixture probably won’t taste as good as if would be if they just made it for you. Noodles for the bun weren’t traditional bun rice noodles, and the chicken was pretty dry. Overall a cute place to visit but not my favorite meal. Lots of potential that hasn’t been realized yet.
Response: Hello Johanna. I am really sad you didn’t enjoy our food that much. I am Taking note of the chicken being dry. Both dipping sauces are home made specially for these dishes, maybe you can tell us on private how would you like us to improve them. Thanks for your time.
Amy P
Amy P: Not a typical Vietnamese restaurant, but a good fusion with local delicacy, like smoked trout! Many vegan and vegetarian options as well!! I was there once at the beginning of my trip and I had to go there again at the end of my trip on my stop in San Jose. The Iced Coffee with Ginger is a must-try, especially if you like ginger. It’s pre-sweetened, but that’s what reminded me of ginger tea in Asia. The trout spring roll was very delicious, though it would be better if the sesame seeds were toasted. There was no sesame taste otherwise. The Bun with Smoked Trout and eggplants was also a good combination, with the fish sauce mixture and a little spicy sauce. Never had a chance to try their desserts because I was so full with the foods!! This is so far my favorite place to eat in San Jose other than the typical foods.
Response: Amy, thanks for your generous and detailed review. We are more than pleased to know you had a good time.
Shayla White
Shayla White: As a vegan, I have been having trouble finding good restaurants to eat at, so when I found this place I was really happy, and they did not disappoint! The food was delicious, and the iced coffee was even better! The vegan chocolate cake surpassed my expectations:) The vibe of the place was perfect and really cute, and the staff was extremely friendly and spoke very good English, which I was especially grateful for. Overall, Cafe Rojo has been one of my favorite spots in San Jose! My non-vegan friends really enjoyed the food also:)
Response: Soooo glad you enjoyed our vegan options. We try to have an inclusive place where everybody can find what they need. Thanks so much for your rating!
Tomer Shenhav
Tomer Shenhav: Fantastic place. We came as a family w/ 3 picky children (3,6 & 8). The place is beautiful and well decorated, with a few tables outside, and 4 home like rooms with very comfortable tables inside. The staff was amazing and helped us a lot with customize any meal for our children. The food was really good - you simply build your own meal and then gets few mins of sauces to the table, so you can "control" your flavour. The cocktails were amazing! Vegetarian options: They have various vegetarian options, incl. a really good soy based sauce which reminds the traditional fish sauce. Kid-friendliness: They can adapt any dish or side dish to children.
Response: Hello Tomer, We are happy you and your children could have a good meal. Thank for reviewing us!
Shiri Ayalon
Shiri Ayalon: We were fortunate enough to find Cafe Rojo on our first night in San José, and we returned day after day over our eight day stay . The food is THAT good!! So is the service, the warm atmosphere, and the delectable desserts. My personal favorites are the trout, the ginger coffee, and the Chilean Torte. Fantástico!!
Response: So many thanks for those kind words. We are really glad you enjoyed our offer.

Restaurante Grano De Oro: what do users think?
David Bethiel
David Bethiel: This is one of the best fine dining restaurants you will find in San Jose. The cost is commensurate with that level of quality, but frankly, it was reasonable for the experience. The food was excellent... loved the lamb shank. Reservations definitely recommended. This place will easily become a favorite for you to return to whenever you visit San Jose.
Hector Willars
Hector Willars: Excellent dinner and reasonably priced for a gourmet restaurant and exceptional service. Enjoyed dinner in the elegant dining room overlooking the open air courtyard. It happened to be lightly raining during dinner, making for a truly unique experience. Highly recommend.
Q L
Q L: We are the guest of the hotel and we decided to have dinner here as well, the atmosphere is amazing, they had decorated for the Christmas holiday, we had a pretty significant misunderstanding with the waiter (12/7th) luckily the manager stepped in and handled everything with one of the most professional customer centric approaches we have ever seen. We’d lovely to come back again and highly recommended.
Paul Jones
Paul Jones: This place was amazing! We stumbled into it by chance, and now we want to stay here at the hotel on our next trip (this time was just dinner).
Nicolas Steegmann
Nicolas Steegmann: Great service, presentation and vibe. We really enjoyed the environment but the food was flavorless. It’s not acceptable for a high-end restaurant that charges these prices to not have tasty delicious food
Nick Halverson VSB

Sapore Trattoria San José: what do users think?
Bahareh Gharaei
Bahareh Gharaei: After we wait for 20 minutes they gave us a table, and the manager took our order because he knew English, we asked him to recommend to us which food is popular and delicious. They had a not-good attitude, poor-quality food and were expensive. The drink was good and the star is for that.
L R
L R: We went to Sapore Trattoria on our last night in San Jose and it was a treat. The food was delicious, the desert was divine and the staff amazing. It made for a memorable evening for the four of us before we said farewell to San Jose and each other. Thank you for a great evening!
Kimberly Martin
Kimberly Martin: Excellent Italian! Had great service from Jimmy! Alex and Belki also!!Had linguini with mushroom sauce and sausage(champignon), eggplant parm, Cesar salad, and flat bread(excellent-they must use for the pizza) and tiramasu. They treated us fantastic!! Live music on a Tuesday at 7. Great Italian, French guitar music that you just seem to know. Great for date night! Or w/other a group-just not a big party atmosphere. Relaxed, enjoyable Italian dinner. Will be back. Highly recommend.

Kate Hayward
Kate Hayward: A rare find. A high quality gluten-free bakery tucked into a small shopping center on Calle Viejo. Their gluten free pizza is great! They have other -free options. Such as lactose free ice cream and egg free desserts.
Dan Ken
Dan Ken: Ordered a chicken wrap. 10 minutes later we hear the microwave go off. Out comes rotisserie style shredded chicken in a gluten free tortilla. No sauce, no vegetables, literally just chicken wrapped in a tortilla. Nothing in the pictures is on the menu anymore, the interior is not even the same place. Also, there was about 4 slices of cake in the display, none of the goodies that are shown in previous google posts.
Response: It could have been a nice detail from you to ask first (as other tourist do) if the menu remains the same as appears in images in google. When people do this, is because they are aware that the Covid 19 had had effects on the businesses so, they understand that the business had to take measures in order to keep open. Our recommendation for you will be, with all due respect, that you talk directly to the people in other restaurants and ask what do the dishes have, or show the pictures of what you are looking for. You help business to grow or improve when you talk, not when you just write a post and leave it behind.
Susan Clark
Susan Clark: DID NOT VISIT!
Paula Rodriguez
Paula Rodriguez: Gluten free options but expensive and average quality. Bad service, they overcharged us in addition to not having good treatment. The super small and expensive cup of tea.
Rosa Chinchilla
Rosa Chinchilla: The dishes have a very good taste and appearance. The price is adequate taking into account the preparation conditions (gluten free, dairy free and/or soy free).
David Rodriguez Oviedo
David Rodriguez Oviedo: Gluten free pastry place! Very good. Must call ahead for some things

Vinny Couch
Vinny Couch: My girlfriend and I ordered a pizza to share. We saw online they had 2 sizes of pizzas costing about 4500 and 9000 colones. We figured we would be able to share the larger pizza. When the pizza arrived it was no bigger than a personal pizza. I couldn’t imagine having a smaller option than that one, maybe one for a little kids menu. The pizza was also about half crust which had no flavor, but the cheese and sauce were good. We sent a message on whatsapp to see if they accidentally sent us the small size pizza but they just read the message and ignored it, not too happy with the service or amount of food we received for what we payed.
Response: Sorry to hear about your negative delivery experience, hopefully we can make it up when you visit us at our restaurant. Hope you can visit us soon.

Restaurante Silvestre: what do users think?
Zak Harmon
Zak Harmon: Such an exquisite place. The 8 course dinner experience and wine pairing is worthy of a Michelin star. The creativity of the food concepts and the presentation of the plates ties together perfectly with the ambience and atmosphere of the restaurant. This is my favorite fine dining experience in San Jose so far!
Arman Barbuco
Arman Barbuco: I was searching for a local restaurant to eat and after reading the comments we decided to go. That’s a good choice. The place is nice, it reminds me of those old houses back in our country Philippines. We asked the staff to tell us about the menu. They recommended the 8 course menu. But there are also the regular ones. We decided for the 8 course and it was perfect. All are great tastes on their own. So if you decide to visit to this place the 8 course is a must try, you will not regret it.
Andreea Giurgea
Andreea Giurgea: Nice restaurant quite close to where we were staying in San Jose. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing. Some dishes were very nice while some were not so good. Very creative menu, inspired by Costa Rican regions. The service was good but the explanations of the dishes could have been better. Other guests got more in depth explanations in Spanish, while we felt a bit left out. The food presentation was super creative.
Evangelia Margariti
Evangelia Margariti: We had the 8 course menu that Silverstre offers and it was mythical. A wide variation of flavours. The service was exceptional and with each course was a detailed explanation of the dish. Perfect atmosphere! Highly recommended for a fine dining experience in Costa Rica!
Jordan Maughan
Jordan Maughan: Such a good tasting menu. Felt like I was eating some of the authentic dishes of Costa Rica prepared in unique ways with the best ingredients. If you’re in the SJO area, you should definitely go here!
Sunny Argan
Sunny Argan: Fantastic restaurant with amazing service. Great menu and wine list. I would suggest the inventive tasting menu with the chef’s wine pairing. You will be taken on a journey full of flavorful dishes with depth and meaning.
Gilbert Corrales
Gilbert Corrales: Amazing gem right on the edge of the capital. Their 3 course lunch menu is an amazing way to enjoy quality food and be surprised by the creative of the chef. Wine pairing with the meal was a nice surprise and amplified the amazing flavours of the meals prepared. This is a place deserving of a Michelin star.
Melody Desrochers
Melody Desrochers: Amazing food and ambiance. A Costa Rican gem! The chef prepares dishes to represent the different areas in the country. A must try
Teo Trenkov
Teo Trenkov: Great experience, pleasantly surprised by the stories that go with each dish. Mind blown by the 3* Michelin worthy honey dessert.

irysh jones: some of the best food i have had in costa rica!!! amazing, staff was awesome! cant say enough good things about this place !!!
Siman Ra Ascension Updates
Siman Ra Ascension Updates: Extremely over rated restaurant. Costa Rica has much better Italian restaurants. We came here today for the opening night. Food was average. The calamari was cold and tasteless. The lobster appetizer was drenched in too much sauce and the puff pastry was not flaky. The main course fish was average and had no flavor. I had the spaghetti with clams in the white wine sauce and it was OK. The arugula salad was disgusting it was drenched in a lot of extreme sauces. The service was terrible. Disappointed and not returning.
Lee
Lee: Great food and atmosphere
Roo Won
Roo Won: Nice ambiance and the friendly knowledgeable server made this a great dining experience. We had the pumpkin risotto and pork tenderloin. We highly recommend both dishes. The special focaccia is a must.
Connor Mullan
Connor Mullan: I came to the restaurant after reading amazing reviews about the servers on google and trip advisor. It was a dinner to celebrate my wifes bithday which I informed the restaurant when making the reservation. The experience was trully subpar, the restaurant was beautiful without a doubt but the waiter Alonso was truly terrible. He seemed aggresive, bored, and was unattentive at best. Even getting water for the table took far too long. The pasta was delicious but I could not convince myself to continue eating at such an expensive restaurant with that level of service. I hope this is just a bad day but trully disappointed

Tom Bombadill
Tom Bombadill: The burgers and beers here are the best thing that can happen to you in San Jose. Such an incredible experience I wish I could get a flight back and go again! The meat is more tender the voice of Frank Sinatra who serenades you gently in the background of the restaurant. My girlfriend got the falafel salad and it was fresh and perfectly seasoned. Everything handmade. They even have local sour beers that are top quality. Incredible service.
Alondra Espino
Alondra Espino: We had a great time at this place. Came for a late breakfast and it was delicious. The place is large and beautiful. We came on a Tuesday and it was empty. Staff was friendly. Mimosas were so good. Highly recommend
Anny
Anny: Been here twice already in one week. Had The vegetarian burger, Mediterranean sandwich, and honey kombucha. All super delicious and healthy ingredients. Great service and great vibe. Funky decors too. Happy new year everyone!
Sarah Spinelli
Sarah Spinelli: Absolutely wonderful experience. The atmosphere is charming with some true apothecary roots and vibe. There are plants hanging from the ceiling in the skylights, the bar is always busy, and the food is incredible. The jazz music playing over the speakers is perfection and really goes with the ambiance. Such a lovely Saturday night experience! If you enjoy adult beverages, get the Penicilina and get your camera ready. Won’t spoil the surprise, but that’s really neat. Go eat and drink here - you won’t regret it.
Luis Diego Pacheco
Luis Diego Pacheco: Great place for a lovely evening! The food is delicious, the service is friendly and the prices are fair.Fully recommended! 😋
Natalia Gómez
Natalia Gómez: Food here is amazing, fast service. Coffee is delicious and staff is very friendly. I am definitely coming back!
Mackenzie Trice
Mackenzie Trice: Absolutely fantastic Cocktails and food! Our waiter was great and gave us great drink recommendations with our food.
Shelby Roquemore
Shelby Roquemore: We love this place! They are pet friendly, drinks are wonderful, food is great, atmosphere on point, but their biggest asset is their waitstaff! Bryan is so kind, knowledgeable, and funny. This is one of my favorite places in all of Costa Rica!
Jenia Cheng
Jenia Cheng: We ordered a matcha latte and passion fruit cheesecake. The matcha latte was sweet and bitter just the flavor you would expect from matcha latte, cheesecake was light, sour and sweet with a nice consistency. The service was good, the waiters are attentive, always serving us water whenever we ran short of it. We still have to try their brunch and more options from their menu. Prices are just the average prices you will expect to find in Barrio Escalante.

Bob Martin
Bob Martin: Very large menu of pastas and pizzas at reasonable prices. Serving portions were adequate but a bit small for those with a big appetite. Service was friendly & attentive. Order was on the table very quickly.
Chas Marfisi
Chas Marfisi: What a wonderful experience here today for my birthday. The waiter Gustavo was amazing and the owner Renzo went overboard to please us. We found a new restuarant now. Thanks. They even cut our pizza into squares as we requested. Chas and Robert🇮🇹👍😎❤
Jose Daniel Cordoba
Jose Daniel Cordoba: Family restaurant with amazing and genuine Italian food.
Mark M.
Mark M.: This place, is amazing. Might be some of best pizza I’ve had in Costa Rica and the people are so friendly!
Jennifer Schueepp
Jennifer Schueepp: My mom, my boyfriend and I wanted to go for a nice Italian dinner and chose this place and we were disappointed in every single way.. This was the worst meal for all of us, not just one dish. We ordered a Pizza and three pasta dishes (checca, quattro formaggi and carbonara) and they were either heavily oversalted, had no cream and big amounts of oil (carbonara) and the wines are overpriced for the quality. The service was decent, but not that good. For the high prices that you pay there I have to say you are getting ripped off badly and all three of us had stomache issues afterwards.. NOT RECOMMENDED! I understand, 1 person can have one bad experience but three people and four dishes and all of them are bad? ...
Walt Weller
Walt Weller: Much more than pizza! Great wine and wonderful made in house pastas. I had Penne Bolognese and it was fantastic with a Caprese salad.
Carol Arbuthnot
Carol Arbuthnot: I had the spinach ricotta ravioli in red sauce. It was very good! It was not heavy at all. Very nice flavors.
