Address: Rental Cars, Provincia de Alajuela, Río Segundo, Costa Rica

Business type: Currency exchange service

Global Exchange: what do users think?

chandni vora: Okay so it was my first time in Costa Rica and I didn’t know that I don’t need to carry a lot of cash but just to be on safer side I decided to take 400$ And they said that if I take 800$ I would get a better rate with a promise that if I don’t spend it, they will give back the money with the same rate. so I did and I didn’t check much but in 800$, I got colones worth only 680$ that means they deduct 120$, THATS A RIP OFF. So I didn’t spend that money much except few thousand colones here and there and when I got back to the airport while departing, I asked to get money back and they said only 50% money can be exchanges, that means I would only get 400$ back even though I had almost worth of 760$ worth of colones, so I argued a little bit, at least they were nice enough to give me back all 800$ back if I pay the remaining amount, so 40$ I pay and they would give me full 800$ back. So you can always argue a bit and not listen to whatever their policy is because they don’t talk about their policy when they try to sell themselves. Thank you global exchange for at least honoring what you promised even though it took a bit of argument. So guys don’t get disappointed if you feel that you got ripped off. Thank you.

Henry Uku: Rates were terrible. You’re probably better off getting cash from the ATM and bearing the associated bank fees

ShufflePierre: Would give 0 stars if I could. Outrageous ~ 20% fee.

eduardo gallardo: If I could give 0 stars I would, total scam I just lost $50 on the exchange, you would think because the are in the exit of the airport they are serious company but it is total scam, rip-off, don’t exchange your money here, I learned the hard way…..

Valentina Martinez: They ripped me off, I just lost 70usd with their exchange fees! Beware!

Kevin Rojas: Unbelievable that Central Bank of CR allows you to operate with those rates

Cherish Peacewalker: Critical: ValueThey took $134 of $900. The guy said there were no fees and that I would get 10% back. Good thing I took a video of this scam happening. Just not sure where to submit it. Please don’t be fooled people. Sadly, if you’re looking this company up, it’s probably too late. Their contact number is even a fraud!

Arvindh Krishna: Fraudulent company. I was planning to exchange couple hundred dollars, but an agent told me that if I exchange 800 dollars for colones I would get the same exchange rate on my return but he never mentioned they honor that rate for 50% (400) of the exchanged dollars (800), so I went with exchanging 800 dollars and used the colones sparingly by using credit card wherever possible during my week trip as the exchange rate I received was almost 90 colones lesser than any bank/atm outside so almost 120 dollars in loss already. On the return I took back to them 95% of the unspent colones but the agent started talking about their 50% exchange rate policy. I was so shocked as they never mentioned that before. I told him that I would have gone to an atm or a bank to get better exchange rate (570+ per dollar) than taken 480+ exchange rate from them had I known that upfront or would not have gone with exchanging as much as 800 dollars with them as per my original plan given how low their exchange rate was. I asked him to talk to their supervisor who took almost 30 mins to review the video of our exchange rate and come in person to honor the rate provided I pay the remaining 5% colones (by exchanging dollars for that amount) which I did as they wanted to cancel the transaction in their system and pay the 800 dollars back to me.

Teledolar: what do users think?

Tim Graves: Very poor customer service. I have been having cash pickup issues for over a year, and the same issue persists. They have all of my documentation, multiple times I have sent it to them. So I try to send my friend money multiple times per month, and I receive email that the money is ready to pick up. But my friend waits & waits in lines only to finally be told Teledolar is not releasing the money. They have serious computer software problems which they do not seem to care about and fix. It sometimes takes DAYS to get the money released. Incompetent and unconcerned people at Teledolar...........

Jason Johnson: Horrible service! I sent myself money via PayPal/Xoom for pick up at this location. On the form it not only asked for my name but mother’s last name. Because I put “Johnson” twice she was not able to help me. Ok no problem. I cancelled the transaction and sent myself the money again. I had to WAIT in the line again! I asked the security guard if there was a bathroom and he said no, I would have to hold it. So I kept waiting. Halfway trough the line, the security guard told me that the “attendant” said I would have to return the next day because she got an email that there was no communication with Xoom. Since I don’t live in SJ, I had to travel 2 hours each way by bus, only to be told I would have to come back. I called Xoom and they said the money was ready for pickup and that the don’t know why they are not helping me. I left a formal complaint with Xoom about this “TeleDolar” place. Avoid this place if at all possible.

JDS: The service is very good, usually busy. But the best new service is the MONIS SERVICE, THEY GIVE YOU A DEBIT CARD. AND YOU JUST NEED TO SEND,RESIVE OR PAY YOUR BILLS WITH THE MONIS APP. FAST AND EASY. NO MORE STUPID COVID-19 LINE OR MASK.

Benjamin Ross: I sent my wife money which she can not pick up was told they need my i.d passport bank statement where my money coming from pay stubs a hand writen letter stating who the person is to me and why im sending her money ..i did all this then the next day i get a email from some else requested the same information ..and i did that to and my wife still cant pick up the money wow this is not write thank you benjamin ross

j fi: The teledollar located in plaza oeste across from the u.s embassy is by far the worst money transfer location in san jose. The first time I sent funds from Costa Rica to the u.s there was an error on my part in the name of the individual to receive the funds. However it took two weeks for the funds to be picked up due to the manager sending an email to change the name on the transfer, when this was never possible, for times. In the most recent example of excellent customer service at this location, managers daughter never requested the name of the sender when I picked up funds, the were unable to change dollars for local currency, and when I complained and told her this is the worst MoneyGram in Costa Rica, her response was to hurl a string of profanities, including racist remarks, come out from behind the counter and shoved me out the door. I highly recommend not going there.

Boyd Barrow: I just hate this place, please send money through wester union. They wanted to know my private life and they wanted me to send them my bank account and even when you send all of this, they take forever to give you an answer

MoneyGram / Teledolar: what do users think?

Levystein Lockett: I go here all of the time to receive money from Moneygram in the United States and to load my Monis card. The security guards are pleasant and customer service in general is very professional and helpful.

Eric Churchill: Just remember your passport and not regular ID. Hassle free and happy with service. She spoke zero English and we used a translator application and still no headache or hassle! Thank you

Adrian Wegner: Super!

Jason Johnson: Slowest service of my life. More than an hour waiting in line with two of six available seats. The nice guard but those who work in the box "ant people" or without efficiency the two who were there

trinidad_perezb perez: Terrible attention, too much bad treatment... Just scolding the client without providing a solution. Wish the guard even those he attends

Pablo Novoa: I wasted 3 hours of my life queuing, only one open box, the supervisor is a disinterested person in the service, they lasted 1 hour 15 minutes attended by a single person, they should have more branches, the service is lousy, a pity that only you in All downtown Heredia have the service platform that I require. Without thinking twice I will move company

wiz kid98: Terrible service an open box and with staff to open 3 boxes there without making anything a mess ,,, they abuse the waiting time more than half an hour without attending to a single person

Camilo Antonio Dorado Montañez: There is a cashier whose attention is bad

JONATHAN CAMPOS MORA: It took about 1 hour waiting in line to be able to withdraw a remittance, in the end they told me that they did not have dollars and the exchange rate they handle is too low. Definitely need to improve wait times

Walmart: what do users think?

J.j Hassan: Super clean , excellent service. Great products 👌 highly recommended 👌

Leo Abert: The store is really big and a bit confusing. But the staff is very nice. They were very helpful by a return of a bad buy.

JDS: Great discounts, the service is very bad do the stupid PLAN-DEMIA 🙄

Glenda Richards: Good experience, I found everything I needed.

Sean D: Great place to shop. It even has a vaccination center for you to get your COVID-19 vaccines, really fast.

Gabriel Flores: Very clean and orderly and there is always someone close by to answer questions.

Cord Thomas: Seems like the largest Walmart around San Jose. Has a nice little food court, and pretty much everything you could expect to find in a Walmart including clothes, electronics, and toys. A great large supermarket.

ScooterPuraVida! Steward: Very, very clean. I think in some situations the covid has demanded that establishments such as Walmart can afford to pay its staff and invest in its locations to provide the utmost health and welfare standards for its people. We can see the difference here.

United States Embassy: what do users think?

Maria Loera: We were in need of an emergency passport and we were attended to quickly. In 2.5 hours our problem was resolved. I was actually very surprised at how organized they were considering that government offices are usually chaotic. That being said, I have some advice for people needing to visit: - they do take people in without appointments for emergencies - there are places that will take pictures for visas or passports right in front of the embassy - you cannot bring anything with you outside of keys and your documents (no cellphones, electronics, purses, food or water) - you cannot store your belongings at the embassy anymore - they will take you out of the line if you arrive too soon, so just stand in line if your appointment is within 10 minutes. Embassy workers are constantly checking people’s appointments and prioritizing them. - you cannot wait for your appointment or for others attending an appointment on embassy property, they will tell you to leave.

Mike Palumbo: Passport Renewal was quick and efficient. Huge complex and well maintained.

Tambor Store: injustice, waste of time and money, does not even check that all the requirements they ask for are

adriana kraig: The office and the “help” they offered was terrible! My husband and I had difficulty getting back to our home in the US after our honeymoon due to some complications with the Costa Rican health orders. First, the office closed early before a long weekend without updating the hours on their website or phone recording. Then, after the long weekend when we called again for help, the embassy hung up on us when we asked for advice and explanation of what we needed to do to get back to the US, our home! When we finally got through to talk to someone, they gave us the wrong information (at least different information than Costa Rica’s Ministry of Health gave us). “The primary purpose of an embassy is to assist American citizens who travel”... but I have never felt so abandoned by my country.

Blue Bird: The people at the embassy made it possible for me and my husband to get new passports when ours got stolen one day before our flight out of the country. I am glad they made this process smooth and fast. Before going in, make sure to rent a safe to leave all your electronics in.

Edward Thomas: I have been to 4 embassy across Europe and this is by far the worst I have ever has the displeasure to visit. It actually makes me ashamed to say I am a citizen of the USA. Been trying to get my wife a visa, after the interview we were told all of her documents are in order but I need extra documentation. Ok I sent them what they requested and now my wife’s is missing. Not so they have it. Now I can’t get our documents or passports back. No phone number to call and they don’t care enough about the job they have to even try to do it correctly. Can’t even get then to look in the stack of papers and check if what they want is there. Shame on them!!! All I ask is do your job like every other embassy in the world.
